Default Intake header question..

non vtech f22. how much horspower can you really expect to get out of an intake and headers? i just picked up a dc intake and headers, just wondering what to realistically expect. if you read ebay and the stuff that gets pawned off there, you consistenly read like 10-15 hp for each piece. i find that to be a bit overly optimistic to say the least. im expecting a 130 hp f22 with what i got to maybe put out 140.. does that sound about right with what i have? anothery thing isnt intake and headers pointless without a high flow cat and muffler?

well first of all, which F22 model are you talking about if i stand corrected theirs
* F22A1: 125 hp (93.21 4 kW) @ 5200 rpm. NOTE* The 1992-1996 Prelude S had a F22A1 but because of a different more aggressively tuned ECU (P12), the power output was 135 hp (101 kW).
* F22A4: 130 hp (96.94 kW) @ 5200 rpm. The F22A4 is the same motor as the F22A1 but it has slightly more power due to a tubular designed header and slightly bigger exhaust piping.
* F22A6: 140 hp (104.40 kW) @ 5600 rpm. The F22A6 is the same as the F22A1 except for a slightly more aggressive camshaft, a better flowing cast exhaust manifold, a different more aggressively tuned ECU (PT6), and a different intake manifold that utilizes IAB's and also has a bigger plenum. The F22A6 also has a windage tray in the oil pan, and stiffer valve springs to accommodate the more aggressive camshaft.
* F22A7: 140 hp (104.40 kW) @ 5900 rpm (147 hp/108 kW with manual transmission)

you can easily gain like 10 extra horsepower just by swapping out the old f22a1 ecu by putting in the (p12) and then if you want add a cold air intake, maybe some aftermarket headers and downpipe, and if your feeling fancy a hollowed out catalyctic converter, that should put you up about 145? maybe? if your engine is still strong, its what my f22a1 has right now it feels so much stronger

It would help if we knew what car you drove....

Since its an f22 and 130 hp then it is the f22b2 non vtec. The most would be about 10 hp on the high side. 1-2 for the intake 5-6 from the header.

Get ready for it and brace yourself.

Your car made 130 at the crank on a good day when it was new. Not to the wheels. Assume with some losses that you'd be making maybe 115ish or so to the wheels? Add on age and miles and you're maybe like 100ish to the wheels.

The I/H/E is not going to benefit you crazy amounts as advertised.

Might put you back up to 115 or 120 hp to the ground. The main benefits that I found where a better throttle response and it moves your power band up a little bit. So you can rev the engine up a little more and still see power. Not to mention if you get a good intake & header it can make your car sound much nicer. Go cheap and it will probably sound ricer!...
