Default Got an issue here

I was driving home today and saw a small blue flash under where my gauges are. The next thing I know, my head unit shuts off and will not turn back on. It will still eject and insert cds and it will light up when it does those two things. Where should I start looking? And what caused this?

No, I am not running an amp, I think it might be the standard 52x4 amp that is in the head unit, and no, I was not blasting it at all...

If it was his alternator, everything would dim and cut out, not just the head unit. Also the car wouldn't start/go so that isn't the problem.

does he notice any other problems? if the alternator is weak and can't run everything the head unit will shut off until it has the necessary voltage.

Check the cigarrette lighter fuse and the fuse under the hood.

The blue flash you saw was probably a B+ wire (going to the radio) shorting to ground and therefore popping a fuse. How did you install your radio? Hopefully you soldered and shrink tubed everything. Before you start putting fuses in, take out the radio and inspect for any bare or poorly spliced wires and repair with solder and shrink tube where necessary.
