It has the intake manifold from a D16Y7 (the slightly crappier non-vtec motor from a DX or an LX). Are you sure it's an EX? I don't know why anyone would make that downgrade. Regardless, $1100 is cheap if it runs well, so probably not a bad buy )if it indeed runs well). I would recommend trying to bring it back towards stock condition and cleanliness. Congrats on picking up a Honda!

I am always amazed to see all the different variations of spelling VTEC. It's maybe just the crappy piture but i can't see any VTEC solenoid. It looks like a good starting platform though. Have fun with it!

Yeah, I'm thinking it's not a vtec car, or an EX. That engine is probably a non-vtec d16y7, judging from the missing vtec solenoid and the y7 manifold. Without a vtec solenoid, you unfortunately cannot have vtec. It's unpossible. If it IS in fact an EX, it's had a d16y7 swapped into it from something else, because all 96-00 EXs should have the d16y8 vtec.

Now, the strange thing is that it has a moonroof. I would have said it was a DX, but I didn't think DXs had factory moonroofs... maybe I'm wrong.

OP: does it have power windows and doors? All 96-00 EXs should have power windows and doors. Don't be upset about it not being a vtec car; I think you still got a very good price on it.

Yea it isnt VTEC. Price still isnt bad though. You still got a crazy deal for it. I spent 2500 for my riced out 95 Civic DX which im still in the works of remodeling.

However I do have a VTEC head with an extra solenoid if your interested. Free shipping

looks pretty decent. on a good price. even if its not an ex, i'd still say its worth the money for a nice daily driver.

Dont change gears with a automatic, Unless your like 16 and have rich @$$ parents to buy you all the parts to do a auto to manual swap. If your that lucky take it on the interstate at about 70mph and shove it in park.

It's an automatic. Honda automatic ECUs generally won't allow you to get anywhere close to redline.

thats not gonna hurt anything. thats why there is a gear shift in them with numbers on them.

Yeah, I guess it's just an EX with a Y7 swapped in. They probably blew up the old Y8. Looks like it'll be a nice pickup with a little TLC.

Yeah, i wonder why they would have done that for? It's not like the Y8's are to much more expensive than a Y7.
