2006 Accord brake problem, again.
I got a certified 06 accord 2.4L with 40k miles a year ago. On the paper work they said they replaced the back brakes. At 50k miles the brakes were shimming and vibrating hard when braking down hill always and most of the time when braking on flat surfaces. They replaced the back brakes again and said the pin?? Was sticking out. I'm at 60k miles now and the brakes are vibrating and shimming again like crazy so this week I want to fix the real problem and not the symptoms. I spoke with a mechanic the other day and he said that in the accord the calipers were defective and honda will not recall them because they do not have to by law. He said I could turn the rotors and put on some new pads and lubricate the heck out of the rotors and calipers and hope for the best or just replace the calipers turn the rotors and put on new pads and never have to worry about the problem again. I have bought new pads all the way around but I'm wondering if I should also buy some calipers at napa or some place? I tired of replacing the brakes every six months so do any of you guys know the real problem here and how I can fix it for good? Thanks for any opinions or advice you can offer. Danny
Are they sure it is the calipers? Most Honda's vibration when braking is from the front rotors being warped and not a caliper problem. Usually turning the rotors with an on-the-car lathe is the best or replace the rotors. Get a second opinion from a mechanic that is knowledgeable about Hondas.
You need to resurface or replace the rotors and replace the pads. This isn't a caliper issue.
When you brake at freeway speeds, do you fell the vibration in the steering wheel? Or is it only in the brake pedal? If you feel it in the steering wheel, it's the front rotors or possible both front and rear. Try engaging the e-brake, just enough to begin to engage the rear brakes, if you feel the vibration, then it's the rear's.

i had a 2003 and 2007 accord and i had this problem on both cars.
the OE pads are garbage, as long as you are using OE pads, no matter how many times you replace them, the problem will return.
i switched to hawk HPS pads and the problem was gone for good.
inspect the rotors also, if you do not see any uneven coloring/dark spots or surface cracks, the rotors are probably still good.
On my 2003 the rotors were toast, many dark spots and micro cracks so i did replace them with brembo blanks and that worked fine.
On my 2007 i had already learned my lesson and i switched to hawk as soon as the vibration showed up and i still have the original rotors.

Well the front rotors are toast.
I've gotta buy new ones but the front brake pads and rear brake pads are both in decent shape. I'm replacing the pads all the way around with akebono proact pads. I just wish I had the time to order some brembo blanks but I've got to go with napa rotors instead. Hopefully the brake problems are over for me, at least for 30k miles. Honda brake pads suck.
