CRX Si revs to 6k RPM+ on start up
Wassup homies
Got an 89 CRX Si, and I just dropped a d16a6 in it. I'm experiencing the most bizarre problem. As soon as I crank the key and the car starts up, the engine revs up all the way to about 6k RPM immediately and then continues to climb slowly.
So here's everything I've tried so far:
- Swapped ECUs
- Disconnected throttle cable
- Unplugged throttle position sensor
- Remove Idle Air Control (this made the engine jump between 1 and 2.5k RPM)
- Replaced Idle Air Control
- Removed all vacuum lines off of the intake manifold (the engine still shot up to 3k RPM and started shaking)
- Held throttle body closed
- Double checked vacuum lines, everything seems to be correct
So we tried all that and the result is the same everytime; the engine revs up to 6k RPM+. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Check all of the vacum lines and plugs you must have some or all disconnected. Look for the larger sized vacum nipples that connect to the PCV valve etc

with engine running Spray Carb a choke cleaner on all Vacuum line and were they hook up and if bogs down when you hit it somewhere theres one of your leaks
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I really appreciate it.
Just bought a new PCV Valve; I'll install it tomorrow. I'll also check for vacuum line leaks, but I get the feeling that it may not be as simple as a vacuum leak - I'd expect a more subtle abnormality if it was a vacuum leak. This engine is revving up to 6K immediately as if the car was started with my foot already smashed on the accelerator.
I do know that the previous owner of the engine had a skunk2 manifold installed on it and had replaced it back with the stock one when I bought it. So this makes me wonder if the issue lies within the intake manifold, specifically.
Also, does anyone know where I can get a more in depth or detailed vacuum line diagram for D16? Rather than the Honda Manual vacuum line diagram? Thanks!

I know you mentioned the TPS already, but when you do a mpfi swap you have to switch the green and yellow wires around or else the car will shoot to redline. You said your swapping a D16A6 into an Si, so this might not be it, just throwing that out there.

Have you actually looked at the the butterfly valve of the throttle body? I know you say you held it closed. Visually inspect it to see if it's broken in half...
take off iacv and clean..or clean th throttle boddie (the insideof it )ormaybeu have sum ofyour vaccumm hoses wrong.i had same pob but mine wen to 4k on start up....
For vacuum leaks here is what I do:
Trouble Shooting Vacuum Leaks
Trouble Shooting Vacuum Leaks
If you can pressurize the system that should tell you where the leaks are. That what I do for my turbo piping.

All you need is 2 hose clamps, rubber coupler, PVC end cap and a valve stem.
