Default dizzy problems? please help

ok so my car run like crap when i put any kind of load on it. when its cold (under 30 degrees here in indiana) its runs ok for about 60 seconds then it will cut out and i will hear backfiring comming from the intake and exhaust. i think its my distributor but im not forsure and i want some advice before i go out and buy a distributor. i changed the cap and rotor and same problem. the plugs were changed this summer or fall with ngk plugs. it will run ok if i barely but a load on it but as soon as i try to accelerate it sputters. any help would be appreciated.

Don't replace the distributor yet. First check your MAP sensor voltage and then check your spark at all four wires.

but if it was the MAP sensor then wouldnt the check engine light be on? also when i replaced the cap and rotor there was a little oil on the wires and on a little black box on the bottom of the dizzy. i think its the ignition module but im not sure.

also it doesnt do it at idle

Checking the MAP sensor voltage is to find out how much vacuum your intake is producing. The ICM usually has 4 terminals sticking out of it that the ignition wiring connects to. If you're certain the oil leak is from the inside of the distributor, you should of course replace it. You can have the parts store you get the new one from test your ICM and coil before you put them in the new dizzy.

You should goto Autozone or some other parts store when you switch the distributors and just do the work in the parking lot. They can test the coil and ICM real quick while you have them out unless different ones are coming with the replacement dizzy.
