and he took out the pistons and did not lable which one goes where
and i was wondering if the order matter? i know that the arrow points
toward the timing belt but i wasn't sure if the one that came out of cylinder #1
had to go back in the same place?

you're screwed. are you replacing the rod bearings? i'd be more worried about the rod bearing clearances than the rings. did you replace the rings? are they stock pistons?

Your not screwed dude, so if your going to rebuild it do it right or your going to be doing it again. Take it to a machine shop so they can hone and get the correct size bearing for you. While your at it order some ARP bolts for head and lower end such as the rods and main bolts. You are going to need to take the ARP's and motor to the shop. Once you get the parts back from the shop remember to plastic gauge the bearing to make sure it correct. Take your time and don't let your bother put it together doesn't sound like he know what he is doing.
