Default Truth about D15B7???

Hey HT.
So I came across a thread called "The Definitive Idiot's Guide to Tuning the D15b7" and read that this engine does not respond well to bolt-ons if you're going for pretty much any gain.

here's the link: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/definitive-idiots-guide-tuning-d15b7-performance-mods-1991183/

I was looking to throw in a CAI just to up the gas mileage and improve efficiency, not just gain power [though that would also be a nice thing]. But after reading this thread, I became a lil hesitant.
I just want to know a lil more about why the D15B7 would not respond well to bolt-ons [if that were really the case] rather than it just doesn't.
Specifically asking, if the only modification to the motor is just a CAI [everything else is still stock], should I expect any, if any, [not concerned about power], gains and disprove what that guy posted 3 years ago.

I would have pm'd the guy who posted the thread but the thread was up 3 years ago and the guy's profile says he hasn't been on since...12/31/1969 [1969? what?].
Still doing my research but some input would be nice.

No flame please...
Thanks!

There is a lot of information about modifying D15s. The search function is your friend:

There are probably dozens more threads, but I can only do so much spoon-feeding.

Best of luck with your project.

kewl kewl. yeah, i've actually ran into these before but they weren't really what i'm actually looking for.
i will though probably look into an engine swap in the future but for now, i just want to know if a stock D15B7 non vtec will get any kind of gain with the only modification being a CAI.
i should've been a lil more clearer so i'll rewrite my concern, but thanks for the input. much appreciated!

I do have a D15B7 motor but i never heard anything about the engine does not respond well to bolt-ons if you're going for pretty much any gain. Not sure what you mean by "bolt on?"

i expect a 0-4whp increase from a CAI on a d15b7
not worth the money IMO

spray it with a 50-75shot, only way to get it moving without going turbo or spending stupid amounts of money for NA 150whp

It will respond, but keep in mind that, in general, bolt-ons are going to give you a fairly small % increase. When your motor is relatively low power/low displacement, a 2-4% increase in power is not very much in absolute terms.

That motor is very similar to other Honda motors in terms of the basic layout. It will see improvements from an intake, headers, exhaust, etc. Its just that it won't be nearly as much in absolute terms.

You might give Bisi a call. He is a great guy and always takes the time to answer my questions. There probably isn't anyone who knows more about making power with Honda SOHC engines.

Best of luck with your project.

look for a CRX Si/A6 cam if you 're on a budget. ive read that its a pretty good upgrade over your stock cam.also put the d16z6/y8 tranny on. those would be in my opinion the best two bolt ons that can be had for under 200 total. anyone agree?

si tranny, milled head, wild cam, port work, good header, long tube intake...

expect no torque down low but you can make huge gains over stock.

ps, a cold air intake wont help your fuel mileage.

any d-series engine isnt really going to respond greatly to bolt-on (headers, exhaust, cai) its not like a V8. they are good engines for boost (not the d15 due to small rod diameter) but they respond greatly to boost.

if you are wanting mpg i would do all the general maintenance things first (plugs, wires, cap/rotor, full syn oil change, ... etc). if that doesnt help then get rid of powersteering, ac, then get less aggersive tires, etc. but if your looking for power out of your engine bay then a swap is the best bang for your buck.
