Please Help! can't get my VTEC to work.
I just bought this car and the vtec is not working. The car is a 1994 accord ex. I have tried adding oil and disconnecting the battery. I have replaced all of the vtec solenoid gaskets and put another vtec solenoid on it. The car will go up to about 5100 rpms and acts like it is hitting the rev limiter. I have no clue what else to check so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I do not have a check engine light on. Thank you!
your vtec when on vaction and won't come back until you tell us what you did with the car so we can at least try to help you.
The car is stock. It has a crappy cat back and thats it. Clogged cat is a good place for me to start. I don't know what computer is in it. I would guess it's stock, but i will look at it this afternoon and post the numbers on it. I don't think the vtec was working when I bought the car. I guess I should have taken the car high up in the rpms when test driving. Thank you for the help.
Just to be sure, are you expecting VTEC to hit at 5000rpm+? The SOHC F engines have VTEC for economy and it engages between say 2k - 4k rpm. It's nothing compared to DOHC VTEC like on the H22 if that is what you were expecting.
I realize the vtec wont hit quite like it did on my gsr, but my car won't go over 5100 rpms. I let my friend drive it today and he seems to think its sluggish compared to his in the lower rpms. I am leaning towards the cat being clogged, so thats what I'm checking next. So it might not be my vtec at all. I'll post what it looks like in couple hours. Thanks for the help.

So I checked the cat. I started the car with the cat disconnected and had the same problem. I plan to scan the ecu to see if maybe the CEL is not working. I am lost as to what the problem is any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Second thing I asked, is there a CEL?
The catalytic converter would throw a CEL if damaged, I'm not sure why that was mentioned. My vote is your ECU was swapped or you have some issues with the motor.

Your timing belt is most likely one tooth off. Common problem on Accords because the engine sits at a rearward angle, dingleberries who don't know what they're doing will often set the cam facing vertical to their line of sight instead of vertical to the engine.
If timing isn't off, check distributor/coil.

you should post the numbers off of the ecu on here. i had a similar problem with my car and someone put a v-tech computer in my non v-tech car. I still have the v-tech computer. i need the number off the computer.
"i haz ECU. vtech no wrk! JDM JDM JDM!!!! ITR ITR!" <- thats what you meant right?
haha my vote is to check the timing as slomofo said
