High revs = blown oil pan gasket?
My car has been leaking oil for awhile now and i think its the oil pan gasket. I thought it was tranny oil because it started leaking right after i put a new clutch in. I have heard that high revs can cause the gasket to blow out. That would make sense cuz my rev limit is 9100 through the use of a jun type 3 setup and hondata ecu (b16a2). I only had the setup for a month or so before it started leaking. I am afraid i am going to waste my time and install a new oil pan gasket and have it blow out again (if indeed thats where the leak originates). Does anyone have any advice for me or have heard of this happening before? Thanks
The short answer is "no". High rpm's do not equal "blown" oil pan gasket.I have been running a B18c and an LS/VTEC at 9,200 daily for over two years and have yet to see an oil leak from the oil pan gasket.
well its not brain surgery to replace an oil pan gasket so i would do that and see if it happens again
it could just be leaking you never know
make SURE you use liquid gasket when you reinstall.

sounds like you gave it a belly ache... after you install the gasket be sure you don't add too much oil... if the gasket blew i'd say that is what happened...

could be as simple as your cam bearing cap seal (on the exh cam ont he distributor side of motor).
seen it many times where oil leaks form there and ppl think its form the tranny.

what torque specs did you torgue the pan to ?
is your PCV valve clogged ? I have seen/had oil seep out of every gasket from a clogged PCV valve.

I have never taken the oil pan off......I know its not the tranny because it is full of fluid and the car has been leaking for a couple months now......The pcv valve sound like a possibilty due to the location, but i don't know much about it. Its so hard to tell when everything is soaked in oil! Im gonna get underneath the car tonight and see what i can find. Thanks for your replies.
Honda oil pan gaskets are notorious for leaking past about 70k, so its defintely a possibility, however, look into a good compression and leak down test. If you just started revving the motor that much higher and trying to make that much more horsepower from it, you may be getting more blow by your rings which would cause an oil pan gasket to blow much faster.
i am leaking oil also. it started after an oil change. during the change i accidentally added a little too much but figured it wouldnt hurt it. by too much i mean about a 1/4" above the top hole on the dip stick. would this be why its leaking now?
thanks

update for mark:
he called me not too long ago, some of the bolts for the oil pan were barely threaded.....kind of a freak occurence...

nope its actually leaking again and im about to break down and take it to a mechanic cuz i dont know where the hell its coming from.
MAke sure your crankcase is breathing properly... Rear catch can / PCV valve and the breather on the valve cover.
All that preassure needs somewhere to go, and if you build preasure in there, seals are going to start giving out.
It is highly probabel (sp?) that the oilpan gasket is leaking because of high crankcase pressures.
I would pull it off your self. Get a NEW gasket. Clean all mating surfaces with Brake cleaner. Apply a thin layer of hondabond to both sides of the gasket, and reassemble everything to factory torque specs using an appropriately rated torque wrench. One that reads IN/lbs would be ideal.
