Icon2 CRV front brake squeal in reverse

2004 CRV w/80,000. I recently replaced the front brakes pads for the first time. Very straight forward. The first ones lasted so long that I bought the new pads from Honda. Rotor appeared fine so I left it alone. Pushed the piston back in with a large C clamp. As soon as I was done the right front brake squealed when reversing and made a grinding sound in forward. I rechecked and regreased the appropriate items without any difference. Today I installed a rebuilt caliper. Grinding sound in forward has disappeared but the squeal in reverse is still there. The only thing left is to have the rotor turned. I plan on driving it for awhile thinking things will set in and the squeal will go away.

Any thoughts?

I would at least bed them in and see if the squeak goes away. did you lube the calipers pins and the back of the pad by the piston? that should be done anytime the pads are changed. make sure the proper brake grease is used.

Did you remember to smear the backs of the pads and the shims with the anti-squeal grease supplied with the new pads? VERY important in preventing squeals.

BTW, new pads sometimes have quite rough surfaces that will bed in within a few days of driving.

Did you "break" in the brakes?

Agreed. Did you apply the back of the pad w/ anti squeel, or moly coat.

The grinding noise is interesting You say the problem went away when you replaced the caliper but the noise is still their in reverse.

It can be the new pads are not seating properly and in reverse the combination of a non resurfaced rotor and the Pads are causing the rotor to resonate and make that sequel you hear.

Try doing a semi harsh break in procedure, A couple of 45-0 stops then let the brakes cool for 15 minutes.

If not the next step i would sug is resurfacing or replacing both rotors and scuffing up the brake pad surfaces.
