New speakers in my 92 Civic HB!
Hi guys!
Im thinking about changing my stock front speakers out with some new good ones.
Now the question is.
Will i be able to install some good speakers that sound nice, without using an amp?
And if not, whats the installation prosess?
My main concern is the speaker wires through the doors and into the dash and to the amp.
I understand that this isnt the easyest of jobs.
I have tried to search, but i couldnt find any topics that shows the whole build, from wiring throug the doors to the amp.
Sorry if the english is off! Im from Norway
Cheers!

LOL, you think your english is off, you obviously have not seen some of the "english" used here by english speaking members.
Your english is fine, take it from a a person born in Helsinki, is Danish by nationality and was raised, [till 6] in Sweden and then moved to Canada, you will have absolutely no problems being understood here.
Now to your problem, yes you can install speakers without needing an amp, it will depend on a few things, starting with what kind of HU you have, is it a stock unit or an aftermarket HU, if aftermarket what is the make and model?
What is it you are wanting to get out of replacing the speakers, better sound, louder, or is it just that the stock speakers are blown? 94

Haha. Okei
Thanks for the answers!
I am planning to install a small stereo setup, and therefore swap out my old speakers. But im not sure if i should/must go with a amp for the front speakers.
Im gonna have a 10" or 12" sub in my trunk, so im gonna need good sound from the front speakers aswell.
The headunit is not bought yet. But im sure its gonna be a "standard" 50w HU from either Kenwood or Alpine.
The reason i was asking is that im not sure if the wires for the original speakers are to small to be usefull with more powerfull, new speakers.

Then it comes down to how loud you want to be able to play the system, and still have it sound good.
You can easily drive 4 speakers with a good HU that is properly wired for power, the 12V+ constant, [hot at all times] in the stock radio harness, along with the ground is not thick enough to supply the current needed by an aftermarket HUs internal amp, so a fused 12ga power lead needs to be run from the batt., just like you would for any amp.
Extra grounding is automatic if you use a metal back support from back of HU to the stock radio rear support bar.
Use 2 ohm Infinity speakers, to get the most out of the HUs internal amp.
This one is "direct fit" when using the mounting ring that come with it...

These ones will need either a spacer or cut a hole for the magnet in the back of the stock plastic speaker housing...

The stock speaker wire is good up to about 50W RMS.
You can improve the sound from your speakers, [whatever brand you get] by replacing plastic and metal speaker housings/brackets with custom MDF, [wood] housings, a speaker will always sound better mounted to wood then to plastic or steel.
Replacing the stock plastic vapour barriers in your doors with Dynamat, [or the like] will also improve SQ, including bass response and SPL, that also goes for any brand of speaker.
Technically you do not need rear speakers, IMO a set of mid-range/mid-bass drivers for rear fill can help SQ in a car, no tweeters should be used in the rear, the have a adverse effect on imaging and staging and phase shift becomes a problem.
If you use the same speakers for the rear as the fronts, just disable the tweeters, easily done by removing the capacitor.
It is also best to run rear fill speakers in mono, not possible without a bridgeable amp.
If you decide you want more wattage and you want to add an amp, make sure you match the speakers to the amps RMS output, best if amps RMS output is a little more then the speakers continuous power handling, [RMS].
For the linked 2 ohm 60W Infinity speakers you would look for an amp that is 30-40 watts RMS into 4 ohms, it will be 60-80 watts RMS into 2 ohms, unless the amp has a regulated power supply, like JL Audio slash series amps
If the speakers you get are 4ohm and 60W, the amp will have to be 60-75 watts RMS into 4 ohms.
This is what is going into my 94LS...
http://www.eclipse-web.com/us/point/sp6910_6510.html two sets of Eclipse SP6510 and the JL Audio 300/4...
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=437
The rear tweeters are removed, and the speakers will be wired in series and connected to the bridged rear channels of the amp.
I will not be running a sub, will not need to for the music I listen to, the two sets of 6.5" Eclipse will give me all the bass I need, the fronts will be installed on custom MDF housings and the rears are installed in custom MDF and fiberglass cabinets, both sets are behind stock grills, this replaces to Eclipse 6.5" 2way speakers I have had for the last 7-8 years, driven off the internal amp of an old school Alpine HU, it's staying.
I will be replacing the stock speaker wire with 16ga speaker wire, I can be a bit of a PITA to do but once you disconnect the rubber door boot from the door and "A" pillar you will see what needs to be done, here is a vid of a 96-00 Civic, although you will not need to pull the fender... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3r5eov0wic your 92 should be easier. 94

Thank you so much for that incredibly informative post!
I can not get a hold of Infinity speakers here i Norway, so thats a bit of a problem.
I could order from abroad, but it seems like a bit of a risk.
Is there any other brand you could recommend for a no amp setup?
Nice video you posted!
I had a Del sol a year ago that i was looking in to changing the wires on.
But same as with the Civic, the wiring seemed to hard.
My conclusion back then was to remove the front fender for easy accsess.
I understand that new wiring require drilling into the molex plug.
But i cant see how i can manage that without remover the fender? as i would need to strech the wire through the rubber housing thing on the inside of the fender.
It could be that my memory is a bit off
Thanks again sir!

Infinity does not sell in Norway????
A quick email should get you the closest retailer... trond@autohifi.no
You do not need to remove fender, unplug harness pull door harness back into the door and out the speaker opening, pull the dash harness side down below the hood release, you will have to "undo" some harness hangers/clips, you should get enough slack to plug the harnesses back together outside the door jamb so you can drill out what is needed, or do it right, get the proper pins for the plugs and terminate them to the new speaker wire and pin them into empty spots on the plugs or depin the stock speaker leads and use those pin locations, I have even used the stock pins, carfully "uncrimping" them from the stock speaker wire and recrimping them, [and soldering] to the new speaker wire and repining them. 94

Yes it seems that autohifi is the only retailer that sell Infinity here in Norway!
Thank you for that, i will contact them and check out their prices.
Since they have "monopoly" i guess the prices is fairly stiff
I think i got what you where saying about the door harness. Will check it out the next time my door panels come off!
Again! Thanks a bunch for your useful info! Will pop back in and ask some more if needed!
