question about replacing tires on ap1 rims
should i go with a 245/45 rear tire that is as close to the 8.5" tread width of the oem bridgestone s02's? or should i just go with a 225/50 tire with as close to the 8.5" tread width of the s02's? i do not want to go with s02's because i need some rain traction. this is not my daily driver

So if OP was to put 245s on the rear of his car, he can go with a Continental ContiSportContact, Fuzion ZRi, or Yokohama AVS ES100.
So if he was to select one of those tires for the rear, what tire is he going to go in the front? Cause I'm not sure where to get the 205/55r16 in that brand. So he'd have to go with a mismatch tire.
Anyways, theres a million tires out there in a 205/55r16 and a 225/50r16 that has greater capabilities than any of the tires above even with them being 245s.
OP can get Bridgestone Potenza RE-11, Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec, or Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08. tirerack has recently done a comparison test which puts the RE-11's ontop of the other two.
And if you're so concerned about tread width.. (considering the fact that the Potenza S-02's which are 225/50r16 but actually have a contact patch of 8.5" which puts them closer to a 245/45r16..) then go with the OE tires. That simple.
I'll say this over and over again, tread compound > tread width.
If you're so concerned about upsizing then you need to find some 17" rims. That will allow a better selection of tires in appropriate sizes for the S2000.
So again, a 205/55r16 front or a 225/50r16 for the RE-11's or StarSpecs will be your best bet for handling on the vehicle. They will handle better than any larger tire that is far less superior than the ones I listed.
...Where is he going to get 245s? Please, link me. So I can get them as well. Find me a 215 for the front and a 245 for the rear. I will purchase them tomorrow if you can provide me a link. And I'm talking about a decent tire, not all season or tires that feel like plastic.
