Default Cleaning block after machine shop

So I just got my block, crank, rods, pistons, etc. back from the machine shop, and the machinist told me that it all needs to be cleaned before I assemble it- he told me to clean it with kerosene- has anyone ever heard of this?

I was thinking dish soap and water, followed by a thorough drying, and a mist of wd-40 on steel surfaces (obviously bearing surfaces would get their respective lubes, etc.)

does this sound right? any help is appreciated

All I ever used was Simple Green and a hose on my engine stand. I wouldnt use WD-40 it evaporates if you dont use it quick enough. I just used SAE 30 weight oil and assembly lube

Dish soap and water or powdered laundry detergent is a good idea. Kerosene, gasoline, or solvents will not remove machining grit from the engine. Covering everything with penetrating oil like WD40 will prevent rust.

make sure to remove the 14mm allen plugs for the oil galley on each end of the motor and use a bottle brush to clean it out. machining particles can get in there and will eventually find their way to to the bearings when you run the motor.
