What are the unused plugs on some engine harnesses for?

What are the unused plugs on some engine harnesses for?

Just curious why they are there?

(they are under the intake mani area)

The same harness is probably used for multiple applications to save money. And since some applications may use additional sensors, solenoids, etc. that are not used on other applications, there will be unused plugs.
