Default About Valve Adjustments on F23A1 and other

The DIY that is in our FAQ:
http://www.6thgenaccord.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=5211
is somewhat wrong/confusing at:
"When the first cylinder is complete, turn the crankshaft 90 degrees counterclockwise. The "UP" should now be facing the front of the car. Adjust the valves for cylinder 3 (note, from front of car, cylinders look like 4-3-2-1). "

You can EITHER have the crankshaft turned 90deg or the camshaft- The UP arrow traveling 90deg.

In order to turn the camshaft 90deg (the UP facing front) the crankshaft has to be turned 180deg! 4 stroke engine...

This procedure can be done without the timing belt cover being removed. There are marks on the inside of the sprocket. You can use the power steering wheel to turn the camshaft and the crankshaft.

Just my 5c

By Murphys law if something is possible it will happen. The stupidity and universe are infinite.

However, it is very unlikely at least on 4 cyl 98-02 Accord. When you turn the PS, the motion is transmitted using the PS belt to the crankshaft and then to the camshaft using the timing belt. Nothing in between. No way to turn the camshaft without turning the crankshaft or vice versa. If your PS belt is loose, on the compression stroke it may slip. Just do it slowly.

In other words there is no real difference on my Accord between turning the crankshaft directly or using the PS to do the same thing, except that PS trick is way easier.

If timing belt was messed up already it has nothing to do with PS. I would be more than happy to know how it could happen. IMHO it is next to impossible on that specific car. Except of course the infinite stupidity factor.
