not sure what to do
So I have a 2001 Honda Civic Ex, for about 6 months now, my heat only blows when I am accelerating, when I slow or come to a stop it blows straight cold air. Now I have been told that it's probably my thermostat that is sticking, and to get it replaced which I am going to do. Just recently my car has started overheating. Once I get to about 40mph, when my heat is kicking, my temp goes back down. Just today my temp gauge started going all the way up to hot, and does not go down. I've had to keep stopping and letting it cool down before I can drive it again. I don't know much about cars, but I;m hoping someone has some insight on what my problem could be. As far as I know both my fans are running well, but other than that, I am totally clueless!! Can anyone help???
Which one is the main fan?? Excuse me for being pretty dumb when it comes to cars...lol!! I know I have 2 but don't know which one is which. I tested them too, i turned my ac on with my heat and both would come on then click off, on then off. I'm just trying to avoid taking it in to the dealership, if it is an easily fixed problem, thank you for responding too Rob

If your radiator is full, a simple test for a stuck T-stat is to turn the A/C and heat on when it starts overheating- both fans should kick on and the temp should level off.
If the T-stat seems fine, pop the black plastic buttons holding the upper trim piece and remove it (the plastic with the Honda emblem on the front). Drive around and see what the temp. gauge does. This should greatly increase airflow. If the temp gauge acts normal, this points towards either
1) a clogged radiator needing flushed and/or replaced
2) a radiator/condensor full of bugs and in need of vacuuming.
Hope that helps.
