What's the purpose of the dowel pin & o-ring in the middle of the head?
I can't remember if I put them back in when I put my head back on. She's all together now, so I need to know what they're there for & what will happen if I DID forget them.
you mean the oil control orfice right in the middle of cylinders 2 and 3 on the intake side of the block?
#12 and 13 in this picture?
i would highly recommend you pull the head off ASAP before you start the engine or you will be pulling the whole engine out in about 20min after you fire it up.
that controls the ammount of oil that goes into the head. with it missing pretty much all the oil will go to the head and leave little to no oil for the bottom end.........
PUT IT BACK IN!

Yeah, I just perused my Helm's a bit further to find exactly that. Time to get back to work.
Actually, it's the dowel pin on the TOP of the head, right in the middle, that goes under the middle cam holder... thankfully! That will only take me a few minutes. Thanks for the help though.
that oring seals the oil passage that goes to the oiling system for the cams.
the dowel helps keep the oring from distorting. you NEED those.
