Check/adjust valve clearance when engine is at 70 degrees F for the best results. Honda advises to set when below 100F, which is fine, but if you set at too low of a temp (below 50F) it will actually cause the clearances to be too loose. If you set the clearance when above 100F, you run the risk of setting them too tight (once fully cooled down). Also the noise could be piston slap. Does it occur at any temperature or warm or cold? At idle, or only on engine rev down? More info on conditions and a description of the noise would be helpful in trying to narrow down the possibilities.

My b16 head sounded like utter **** (sounded like the rocker arms were hitting the valve cover type of sound to give you a idea)

It was shot all to hell LMA's. Replaced them and it was butter.

Does it only do it out of vtec? Just take the car up to whatever your vtec crossover is, soon as it crosses over hold it there steady for a few seconds and see if you still hear the sound. If you dont, its more than likely the cause. Or you can just remove the valve cover and try to press down on your center rocker arm's and see how they feel. Should be stiff and springy, mine were loose and sloppy lol

Hey guys looking for some help I have a b16 with a neptune. I went on a canyon drive with some friends then on the way back a ripped it and took it to probably 9k it was a launch so I was trying not to get it too high up there but after I shifted to second and went into vtec it felt laggy and weird then I pulled over and my car sounded boggy and weird deeper sounding i guess and when i idle then take it to 2k and let it drop there's the weirdest rattle it almost sounds like the clutch rattling but it seems to me like it's coming out of the head?
