CRX Front Speakers
I bought some infinity kappa 3 way speakers, and crutchfield said they would mount in the front with the back of the stock speaker 'cup' removed. Yeah right. They hit the window. What did you guys do? Just space them out I guess? I fear they'll hit the door panel...
Well these speakers I got are really deep...

i had installed kappas in my 90 and 91. mine were only the two-ways and they were REALLY close to the window. i didn't think mine would fit.
i don't know if there's anyhting you can do. have you tried putting washers in the front and test fitting the grill cover?

I'm going to have to hack up the door panels anyways so I guess it doesn't matter. I have a '94 GSR dash in the crx and it doesn't match up with the panels. Oh well.

my 90 si i bought as second owner, already had 2-way Infinity Kappas, in the front doors and reears, and they fit, but maybe the 3-way are just too big, maybe you should of gotten the 2-way, anyways, mine are so old, it already has a rip going around the diameter of the out cone, so i am going to get new ones at crutchfield also pretty soon.

I got the same speakers in my CRX and all i had to do is get that cup looking thing and cut a huge hole all around it. The speakers fit well and do not hit the back of the door.
This is why you go to a professional instead of trusting a mail order company, If you went to a shop, they would have no problem switching the speakers for ones that fit right. (sorry, had to get that off of my chest)
The magnets in the kappa 3-ways had no problem fitting in my hatch, it's the tweeters sticking out the front that didn't work. I went with Boston Acoustics instead.
did you cut the backs out of the baskets and leave the spacer rings, or remove the baskets completely? also, did you use the adaptor ring that comes with the kappas that alow you to screw into the factory locations? that ring should push you out enough to clear your window, but like I said, good luck getting your grilles to fit over those tweeters.
-Just the opinion of someone that's been Installing profesionally for 12 years.

Yep, those are my speakers. They sound good.... But I think I might like my JBLs more
Oh well. It's hard to tell in a car with no sound deadening where you have to keep the volume at like 80% to hear anything hehe.

I thought you had to pull out the black spacers to fit the 6 1/2 speakers. Did you use them with the backs cut out? If they still did not fit damm. I tried puting some infinity reference speakers I had laying around 5 1/4 and they were too deep also. Damm Crutchfield lies......
I have diamond audio 6.5 in mine and in order to make them fit (you have to use the bascket) take the bascket out and with an air saw, or whatever you can use, cut in the grove (there is a grove going all the way around the basket, that has spots to screw the stock speakers to) all the way around the basket. Once you reomve this the speakers will slide right in. The only hard part is getting enough plastic to tighten down the speaker. I am also an installer.
