Default Transmission Guru's!

So i finally cracked into my si trans, and found, among other things, that my 1-2 gear fork is broken (see pic). i have a dx trans that the diff blew out of, but i was able to salvage all the gears and the shifter forks are intact and not damaged at all. no cracks nothing.

my question is, can i use the dx forks in my si trans?

my si fork says l3 1-2
my dx fork says l3 1-2y

that is why i ask.

Edit: the si trans is a 91, and the dx trans is an 88. dunno if it matters...

Thanks In Advance!

-Ryan

Here's a pic of where it's broken (circled in red) the pieces missing are under it:

how the hell did you manage to do that? I think because the gear ratios are different for si and dx trannys that the fork wont fit around the syncro sleeve that puts the tranny into gear. im not 100% sure so dont quote me on it.

really? from what i've read the dx and si trannies have the same gear sets, but the fd is different. i'm going to try it out today after work and see what i get.

as far as how that happened i have no idea. the si i pulled the trans out of was kind of riced out, the prev. owner did beat the **** out of it, then i beat on it for a while, and the car was in a minor front end collision. so idk how it happened.

Honda shows different part# for your models:
1988 (DX): 24220-PL3-010
1991 (Si): 24220-PL3-601

huh interesting. i wonder what changed? according to majestic honda, for an 88 or an 89, the shift forks are the same for both dx and si trans (part number 83609). for a 90-91 dx/si trans the shift forks are also the same, part number 83610.

i think i'm going to try to make this work. the worse that can happen is that it wont shift, however everything visually is the same so i guess we'll see.

the forks are the same. the diff's are different. just make sure not to mix the gears. i ****ed up once on the gears but figure it out.

hahaha that would suck. no i have them seperated. the dx forks fit my gears, so it looks like i have one less thing to worry about with my trans. now just to save up 200 bux for the bearing/gasket kit
