Post Coolant Changing half ***

hey guys..

i changed my coolant taking out the drain plug coolant coming out. but i didn't unbolt the 19mm/ bolt on the block to empty that coolant and i also took out the reservoir and changed coolant and put new coolant. will this have any effect on my car?

was just wondering if that is enough to do? or do i have to empty the coolant on the nut with the block

There was still some coolant left in the block, but you did 80% which is all that is really needed. Last I checked honda didnt pull the freeze plug when they do it, so I wouldnt worry too much. Not to mention I've done it 5+ times that way with no issues (then again, I am in the south, so freezing isnt exactly an issue).

No, you did it wrong. The radiator and hoses only contain about half the coolant in the system. Cooling system capacity is about 6 quarts, and only about 3 comes out of the radiator itself, and the rest comes gushing out after you take that block drain bolt off.

So the way you did it, you only replaced about half of your coolant. If you flushed the system (removed t-stat and put empty housing back in) then your system is now about half full of garden hose water (NOT good for the radiator). If you used a 50/50 coolant/water mix, then you now only have about 25% of the capacity as actual coolant.

I always empty my radiator AND block, remove thermostat from housing, flush with garden hose, and then make sure all that hose water is drained out (open radiator drain AND block drain AGAIN).

Also, make sure your heater temp slider is set to full hot so that the heater core will get drained/flushed also.

How much coolant mixture were you able to get back in there? If it wasn't about 1.5 gallons then you still have a lot of old coolant mixture left in the system.
