does anyone know why my rpm jump form 1100 to 2500
i bought this car & had 2 put a headgasket in, after that i couldnt get it to run right so i pulled the top intake & blew through the ports i heard a little pop but didnt think nothing of it. turns out the timeing was off thats why it didnt run right. OK now to the prob again, after iblew the topintake out sometimes when u start the car it fluchuates rpms form 1100 to 2500 & just bounces constant inbetween that range & doesnt stop. is there a diaphram i damaged???? has this happed 2 any1? 2day it was -35 out & it did it again now its in my shop to c if it just needs to be thawed out so i can drive it. I REALLY THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH WHEN I BLEW THE TOP INTAKE OUT WITH AIR. im almost 100% sure
ITS A 1993 accord lx

no that has nothing to do with it cuz ive been driving it for months & it only does itif i first start it and hit the accelerator. if i first start it & leave it till it comes off high idel its fine
just a suggestion, but can it be that one of the hoses that might of gotten a whole or a crap thats letting the pressure escape if it starts to build up?
Surging idle is usually cause by one of the following;
Air bubble in coolant (ECT sensor sending improper readings)
Vacuum leak (will surge all the time)
IACV (Intake air control valve - will cause a surge when the valve is dirty/clogged/broken)
FITV (Fast Idle Thermal Valve - will cause surge if not adjusted properly)
The IAC valve is mounted horizontally on the upper intake plenum, next to the throttle body. The FITV is mounted vertically on the front of the upper intake plenum. They both have 2 small coolant lines connected to them. The FIT is temperature controlled and the IACV is ECU controlled.
There is a DIY in the FAQ's for cleaning the IACV & throttle body and adjusting the FITV on a 5th gen. The two valves are located in different places on the 4th gen manifold they still work the same and they are cleaned & adjusted in the same fashion.
In the linked image part # 8 is the FITV & part # 15 is the IACV.

if I were you I would change out the T-stat, and clean up the IACV even if you don't think you have to. Then bleed the coolant system. (you'll have to anyways)
i didnt really look to hard i was in a hurry today when i poped the hood. ghost accord u sure are alot of help around here u must really know these imports
Thanks. I wish I knew everything there is to know about imports. but I don't. However, I do know a bit about Accords.
I was an apprentice mechanic for a few years. Learned enough there to get me started. Working on my own cars has been a hobby of mine ever since (15 years). It just so happens that I've been tinkering away on a Honda for the past 6 years. There is a lot that can be learned about these cars on the interwebz. Also when you tear one down to the very last bolt. You tend to retain some info about them as well.
I could probably go into a Honda shop and challenge a few certs by now eh!

well i cleaned the iac valve & the fitv & it does the samething. i can hold the throttle just a bit @the TB & cracked the bleeder screw & coolant comes out & stops so i close it till it builds pressure & then repeat but get the same out come
Remove the air intake tube, reset your ECU thenstart your car. What happens if you take your thumb and cover the upper port inside the throttle body? Does covering the lower port do anything?

Upper port is the IACV
Lower port is the FITV

Upper port is the IACV
Lower port is the FITV
Thumb over top port and revs ok. What happens if you cover the bottom port?
