Anyone know which header system works best in welding a hfc. I live in cali and need a cc that is OBD2. The vibrant 1 is not not OBD2 from what I heard and so looking for a rh and then weld up a cc. All opinions welcome.

What do you mean not obd2? Anything k series related is obd2. And there's no such thing as a header not being obd2. The vibrant has an option with hfc or not. It would be better to spend the extra money and get the hfc and there would be no welding required. I personally wouldnt buy a skunk2 header and put an hfc behind it. That would be wasting money

IMO, buying a header with a cat is a waste of money, no matter the brand. Picking up my BCRH tonight!!! Bummed that I can't install it tonight, but my band has a gig every Thursday...Have gigs Friday and Saturday too, so it might have to wait until Saturday morning. Maybe if I'm lucky, I can get my car up on the lift during work tomorrow, or else I'll have to use jack stands lol...sorry for thread jack. Like Ivtec said, if you must have a cat, get a header with a cat already welded into it from the company.

buy the catless header and save the OEM set-up. When it comes time to re-smog, simply but back on the OEM system.

for those of us in socal with CARB and such, is that pretty much the only way we're going to be able to use a header + get any power gains out of it? we gotta just keep the OEM stuff and put it back on for smog tests?

The hfc is not OBD2, so won't pass smog in cali

There is really no point in getting a High Flow Cat if you are in the state of CA. As of 1/1/09, New catalytic converters sold or installed in CA must be designed to meet the following requirements:
1. Must be an OE replacement only - no "high flow" or performance cats
2. Must be granted an ARB exemption
3. No used or rebuilt used cats can be installed

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...ftermktcat.htm

You might be able to pass a muffler smog emissions test, but a visual inspection would fail you immediately. If you are going to get a header and you live in the state of CA, I would get a catless header and just reinstall oem parts for smog inspections.

Thats what I was figuring, however that is a problem in itself. Getting pulled over for loudness is common occurance here and then if they smell the fumes. Huge fine. Thanks for the input

i believe the only carb legal header is the ct-engineering shorty header.

its expensive... so i recommend getting a used one---> its not worth $500 market price...

With a OEM sounding cat back you shouldn't have any problems. I have the HKS Sport Ti and it is nearly the same loudness as the OEM set-up. I guess there's always the risk of
getting caught without the cat, but if theres no reason the be hassled, maybe it's worth taking a chance.

I think you being in California and hearing how heavy the fines are you should probably not do the race header. Question though, do they actually inspect the exhaust manual? If not then how about a shorty header from Megan or used Comptech along with a high flow cat like the Random Tech. This way you get some gains and it is much easier to swap back the oem cat alone than the whole header. Plus although it does produce more pollution than oem it will not have the obvious smell that could get you in trouble if you were ever to be stopped by po po.

It's too late. I've had the RH on for 6 months now. No problems so far.

Installed my Buddy Club RH on Friday and the smile hasn't wiped off of my face since. What a freaking difference!! Now I see why everyone says this is the best mod they've done to their Si. A Honda with torque....who woulda thunk it. The car is a completely different animal.

Only took me about 2 and a half hours on jack stands. Wasn't nearly as hard as everyone made it seem. LOVE MY BCRH!!
