Default New here & new to hondas

Hey yall, My name is Matt

I am looking at a 89 Si to buy & no a lot about cars, but not Hondas in specific

I looked it over pretty good, looking at what I know to look at as a car guy, but I would really appreciate a lil info on things to look for on a honda like this

This is what I know about it

Car has roughly 160K on the clock, but has has a 91 SOHC 1.6 ZC swapped in with a 93 HB trans (whats an HB trans ?) with posi, & they supposedly have around 35K on them
It has a chrome header & full exhaust with hi-flow cat... quiet at idle, sounds nice when mashed on
Its been lowered with Sportline springs & rides good for a lowered car IMO
It has 17" wheels with good tires & he says it only rubs a lil when turning the wheels all the way
Has a AEM intake tube & filter (Im pretty sure that was the brand)
ACT stage 2 clutch
Crack in the windshield, but is tagged & inspected through next year
It has a couple minor dings, but nothing bad, its never been wrecked & its obvious
It has original paint also, & its in decent shape, but will need re painting once the digs are fixed to look really nice
He has a body kit for it, but only the front bumper is installed right now
The only rust is on the sunroof (paint bubbled) & a spot about 3" long on the A-pillar where there is a bare spot (missing paint) and its a lil pitted
Interior is nice, especially for a 89, only has one lil hole in the passenger seat from a cig

Ok, heres what I know is wrong with it
The tach moves, but reads 0 at idle, so I know its inaccurate
The SES light is on & he says its the O2 sensor because he spliced the wires for it because the header moved it too far for the stock wires to reach
And the A/C is not hooked up because the return line has a hole in it & he took the belt off the compressor

Overall I think it is a pretty nice car & everything was done RIGHT from what I can tell

So my questions are, is there anything I need to look at specifically, and do yall think its worth $2,500 ?

Thanks, Matt

Also it blew the stock head gasket, so he replaced it with a Felpro
He said that the timing stuff was in good shape while he was in the engine

This was dont last week

I rode in the car & it doesnt seem to have any problems other than what I stated above

What are common problems with these cars, so I can know in advance before I buy it

Matt

Well it sounds like its in decent shape for an ef. you might wanna ask how it blew a head gasket. did it overheat? was the head warped and if so was the head mill'd? if u buy it get rid of the 17's and body kit lol. oh and i've never heard of an "hb" tranny and or an lsd hb tranny.
