Default bad fuel filter? spark plug wires??

Hi there ive had a p1381 cyp sensor check engine light/code. My car would surge and sputter throught the driving range. I changed the distributor and it did help as far as performance..but my check engine light has not gone away? I heard something about it need to go through a complete drive cycle of about 100-200 miles and the ecu will reset it. BUT my problem now that i didnt have before is not that my idle is jumpy from 1.5k to 2k up and down. I also hear a slight surging sound when i hit 4.5l rpms and up. Im thinking maybe a fuel filter?? spark plug wires? any help would be great. thanks

did you retime the ignition? clear the code and see if it comes back.

what do you mean by retime the ignition?? Ya i cleared it by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery and it goes away. but 10 seconds later after starting it up it comes back on

He wants to know if you set the ignition timing when you replaced the distributor. Check the wires running from the CYP to the ECU for breaks. It may be that you didn't need the dizzy after all. Also check your valve timing- make sure the timing belt didn't slip.

OK here it is..i did need the dizzy bc my car drove 10 times better when i changed it. The light stayed on bc i forgot to reconnect a connection that goes into a sensor in the head. I took the clip off to install the dizzy. the light went away...My only problem now is my jumpy idle... it happens occationally, it goes from 1.4k to 1.9k rpms
