Default Opinions on F20B swap!

I used to own a 96 EK Coupe with a b16a2 swap and full boltons mostly skunk2, si cluster, si interior, si wheels, I miss her so much. However its time for me to move on!

I have decided I want to do a JDM F20B swap into an EG Hatch.

So im in the search for a clean EG hatch shell or even a running eg so I could part out the motor/tranny when I swap it.

Now HMO has the F20B listed at $1100 for the longblock/tranny/ecu/sensors/ect....

However I know im going to need axles, special mounts and a harness.

For an EG Hatch what will I need exactly? This will be my first swap.

I basically want a car I can daily drive and have fun every once and a while. Now how is the modification market for the f20b? Will I be able to find mods as easy as I will for an H22? The most I wanna do is a header, intake, exhaust and maybe an intake manifold.

What are the pros and cons, and exactly how much am I looking to spend not including the shell/car its going in.

That is actually the same setup as an H22, there is a guy here with an F20b coupe and it is QUICK. It's all stock though. So something with the bolt ons is definately going to run very nicely.

You would need
Motor, Tranny, Clutch and Flywheel, Mounts, Shifter, Shifter Cables, Axles and Halfshaft, ECU and harness as you have stated. That is all you should need.

I'm not too sure on the Pro's except for it is very quick.. someone else may can help you on that.

Cons
You have to take out the dash and drill the hole for the shifter cables.
Not too sure about too many on this, maybe someone else can help on some cons also. Honestly though, that is a very good price for the motor, and it would be a nice swap, you don't really see a lot of them. You can find parts for them just like finding them for an H22.

As stated above, Install is exact same as H22 .

Only con I have heard, same as a h22 car. is the cable shifter vs the rod shifter our cars come with.

A wicked setup a buddy was doing then gave up was a B2F setup. With a b16 transmission.

Motor would of been great, and still had a perfect feeling transmission.

Im actually thinking about doing an F20B mated with a b16 tranny.

F series blocks don't bolt to b series tranny's without an adaptor!
IMO, i say spend your money on a B20Z, the tranny of your choice...it will bolt in so easily! I have this swap in a 96 cx hatch, it went like hell!!

That sounds sweet. I'm always wondering why there are so few H22s and F series motors in our cars. And no I'm not trying to start a debate or anything, I just think it would be cool to see more.

I was going to do this swap, But after thinking of everything ( and the engine importer not having the motor in stock ) .I decided to skip the idea.

You will need the adapter that is used for H22 to B series transmission. That will add another $ 1100 to your swap price. then axles and a chipped ecu or the obd2 stock ecu .

I say go B series. You can get a b20 longblock for like $500 and later on throw on a b16 or gsr head and go b20vtec.

He's wanting to do a F20B swap. Which I think is more reliable than B20Vtec.

GL on the build.
