Default $4k to spend on engine help!

alright I am stuck and need some help out here, I got about 4k to spend and have a couple engine choices in mind and I am posting to see if maybe you guys can narrow them out, so here we go ill just list them out with some good out of all the engines:

(JDM)b16a - cheap and have money left over to spend on mods

GSR - from what ive read is better for a turbo setup than the b18c type r because of compression

B18c(type R 98+ spec) - this was ganna be my overall choice, makes good horses and I can say I have a type R haha.

If you guys have any engines you want to throw in please due so I am very open to anything right now but in the long run my goal is to beat or meet 200+HP at $4,000

I would say get a jdm spec B18C GSR, it's better priced than an ITR, and comes stock with 180hp. With the money you saved, get a good intake manifold, cams and chip with ecu with Hondata. You would be on a great start to the 200hp club

on a bone stock jdm itr motor i've seen people buy a better header, and drop in some rocket cams and broke way over 200 whp. it's possible with a stock motor

i'd stick with a itr motor if you don't plan on boosting, very reliable and yet great power

For $4000 you could build several D-series turbo engines and be making making well over 300hp... with several backups!

what d engine would I need to be doing that haha, also if I saved a little more would it be worth it to go K20a? Ive thought this out for a while now and everytime I was saving I always had to end up spended it or something haha I know the engine is about 5k what about parts? and maybe labor? I have a shop that is doing all this for me now so thats why I am keeping my choices open.

I vote d16a6 or d16z6. Get a full gasket kit for it, tuner toy rods, vitara pistons, cometic headgasket, all new bearings, a turbo regrind on the cam, valve job and new springs and then chip your ecu and piece together a turbo kit or just order one from go-autoworks. Then spend a chunk getting it tuned right. This can all be done for under 4k if u can shop smart and work on your own cars. Over 300hp andpretty reliable if tuned correctly.

You'll need more than 4grand to do the ITR swap, especially if you have a shop do it for you. 4grand will maybe get you a clean ITR engine with tranny, and those are getting more difficult to find. At which point, you'll need to get a conversion harness, some mount kit, a new test pipe/cat (2.5" collector plate -> 2 1/4'), some new spark plugs and wires(optional), water pump(optional) and timing belt(optional), some tranny oil, and engine oil. You'll also need a new hood to clear the height of the engine. I might be missing some stuff in there, but you get where I am going with this.

Right, and a new mechanical VSS or SiR cluster....

Oh and shift linkage....

I personally know the shop/owner working on my car I was qouted 3500 just for a b18c (96 spec) engine work on my car without labor in which he said I could just pay him labor later. As far as the cluster ima wait it out and just roll with my stock cluster but I am going to snag a 89 EDM CRX gauge since they have a redline limit of 9.5k.

$3500 is too much for that engine.

Complete LS longblock:$500-700
GSR tranny: $400-600
Turbo kit: $???? Could piece one together for pretty cheap.

Point is you could have a easy and reliable 275-300whp and still have a couple hundred left over if you plan and spend the $4k right.

how does the rest of the car look?

if you plan on keeping the car for a while, go with a cheaper swap invest in the looks, suspension etc of it too

i hear ya on that, but in case you go to sell it, people will pay more for a better looking car with a lesser swap, than they would for something that's beat with a better swap.

i think the inside and outside should go hand in hand a bomb *** swap with a poo poo exterior is like washing your hands and then drying them off with dirt.

You think a B16B is a better choice over a B18C ITR motor, really?
