vtec help...
okay i did a b18c5 swap not to long ago and is still trying to finish up. well i got into some more problem now and is frusrtated. At first i though that my vtec wasnt working at all because some of my CEL was still on, and so i fixed it and got all the CEL cleared. In case, if any help,FYI i used my civic dx harness with a immbolizer removed by katman. Then i followed the FAQ of vtec wire etc on HT here. so vtec was wired, KS, bypass CFK for all CEL to clear(wired directly to ecu).
then i was seraching around and found out that my oil level/pressure cant be low for vtec to engage(checked, and oil is not low). v-tec solineid has to be working( checked, used a chipped p28 and vtec engaged). but one thing i am uncertian of, my vss (Speed sensor) isnot working because my speedo and milage is dead, but here is the werid stuff i read that vtec wont engage if the speedo wont work correct?, however the CEL doesnt come on for the VSS. So i am assuming that my VSS works because my CEL doesnt come on and thier is a shortage somewhere( oh yea before the swap my speedo was working etc the speed sensor itself on the harness was working fine). So is it possible that my VSS died and some weird freaking reason my CEL wont turn on?
and the other thing I am assuming is that chipped p28 doesnt read vtec sensor whatever( wild guess here) and that vtec automatically engaged because chipped p28 was programed that way???? **** i dont know just throwing BS out there if it could be true.

So it sounds like ur car is OBD1 and ur using the OBD2 P73 ecu, right? Well the OBD2 has a 3rd plug that goes to the gauge cluster for the speedo among other things. If I was u I would just use a chipped OBD1 ecu and get ot tuned for the C5.

no my car is an obd2, a 98 civic dx hatch, and i am trying to get the car to be reff first before i go with a chip p28. also when the p28 was used, the speedo still didnt work...

OBD2 ECUs in an OBD1 car = bad/dumb idea
hey zedron, my car as i stated above is not a obd1 car, it is a obD2(a).
hey civicr87, my car is an 0bd2a and using the same engine harness not obd1 harness.
i also have the 0bd2a to obd2b jumper to run my p73 ecu, which works fine..
but like i said the weird thing about is, i think my ecu is not responding to the vss, but if my vss wasnt working then shouldnt my car throw a CEL? in some wierd reason the car is not throwing a code, and i have been driving this car for about 1 week and a half already not CEL yet. so i assume it works because the CEL isnt thrown but the speedo anit working
But then again, when i used the p28 using the 0bd2a to 0bd1 jumper to run it( forgot to mention this, might have caused some confusion.) the vtec kicked in fine and ran like a c5.

So all ur gauges work in the cluster but the speedo? R u getting the priming CEL? There is only 5 things that determine if Vtec engages or not.
1. Temp
2. Oil pressure
3. Load
4. RPM
5. Speed
If u r sure all those r working and up to spec then I would say something is wrong with the ECU.

On most all ecu's (exception of some tuners choice programs) vtec will not engage if the car isn't moving. U need to b driving and under a load for vtec to work, a load means the ecu detects the amount of power the engine needs to move the car. That is the best way I know how to explain it to u.
civic r87, all 1-5 checked then, with the exception to number 5, i will try to get it fix this weekend, since no work on weekend, i will give u results back. I gladly thank you!

Yeah, I would start with what tthoj said and go from there, sounds like a clogged oil passage. Unless u have a sensor dropping signal, u don't have a CEL pop then go out on when it does it?
screen is clean all wires have good connection mi oil pressure gauage is reading weird i never get more than 60psi when its warm or cold and the problem only occurs after driving for about 15-20 steady minutes...plzz help this problem is driving me crazy nd oh yeah when i first start mi car there is a squeling for about 1minute then goes away and ill have no oil pressure till the squeling occurs
94teg, maybe your vtec solinied may be clean, but it may be broken?
also, does your car idle? because my brother car idles and his vtec is lagging choking, whatever u want to call it...

idk i have two vtec selinoids and they both do it it idels its been laggin a little between 2k and 3500 rpm im using a p72 ecu it has always worked this problem jus poped up outta nowhere
