02 RSX TypeS Timing Chain Tensioner
If the cams were upgraded can the timing chain tensioner be re-used or should it be replaced? Ive heard everytime a k20 is taken apart the timing chain tensioner should be replaced.
I've re-used mine during an engine build. I even ended up putting my k20 tensioner in my k24 too. I don't see why it couldn't be re-used. I've never heard that.
But if you are looking for a good upgrade hybrid racing has a killer timing tensioner.

Well any idea why the car wont rev past 3000? the car has k pro and is showing code 57-3 has something to do with the variable valve timing, or the camshaft position sensor i think. and it starts rough and idles real low.
Check to see if the cams were installed correctly? ^^^ What he said.
Fixing that problem will probably fix your low rev limit problem.

A technician i talked to told me that replacing the timing chain tensioner is common thing when taking apart a k20's, has anyone ever heard that before and its not possible to stretch a timing chain is it, car is only bout 260 horse
I'm sure thats a "while you're in there" suggestion...Chains can stretch, sprockets can wear, so can guides and tensioners. If the set has more than 150K on it, I'd replace the set "while you're in there"

If the timing chain tensioner is broken completely should the car be able drive at all. I drove the car to a speedshop because knowhere else will work on it because of the k pro, the mechanic said the tensioner is broken and costs 300 for a new one, but if the tensioner was broken how would i be driving the car
A broken tensioner could totally cause the problems you are experiencing. Loose chain will throw off cam timing and reduce power. The chain should be flopping around, making noise, and damaging the timing set, and possibly the side of the block while its at it. Eventually the chain or something else will break
I cant hear anything knocking around and i drove the car in its current state to a speedshop about 45 mins from where i live and the car drove ok just a little doggy under 3000rpm but after 3000 rpm it sounds real weird, could that sound i hear after im over 3000 rpm be the loose chain
We just had the same problem with ours. We have upgraded cams and we didnt upgrade the tensioner, so it broke. We opened it up and the tensioner was broken and so were the guides. We bought a hybrid racing tensioner, a bit expensive but worth the money. When the tensioner broke it made a real weird noise, like clicking sound. We were able to drive it home though.
I suggest you dont get a stock tensioner again, upgrade it, it will only cost you more in the long run if the stock one breaks.

Yeah but thats because you're poor or dumb or inexpirenced with auto repair. The tensioner is a wear item and should be replaced when applicable.
i will never ever ever ever reuse a tensioner, always replace it. its really cheap insurance. and should be done every time the engine is rebuilt or has new cams
