Default Continuous blinks from ECU

my moms car is an 89 civic sedan Automatic. sometimes it starts sometimes it doesnt. ive changed the main relay but that doesnt help. this has been going on since the car was bought last year.

today i tried to on work it. cranked it and now it just doesnt start. then a check engine light comes on. so i lean over to check it and never before have i seen 16 continuous blinks.

i mean it does:

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . = 16 singles

usually it would be:

... . = 1 solid and 1 single would be 16, fuel injector..

what does the 16 singles mean? i know it isnt code 1 cause theres no pause and only pauses after 16 singles and starts it again.

but if it is code 16, how would i go about fixing that?

i'm guessing your mom's car is dual point because it's an 1989. if that's the case, then the pm6 won't work or won't work properly.

btw code 16 is for the fuel injectors. check to see if they're getting the proper voltage.

The pm6 won't work if it's dual point. If you had a pm5 you could start and run the car but it wouldnt have the automatic kick down so it wouldn't drive. But it would test so see if the ECU is fried

OBD0 D-series ECUs don't have long and short flashes, only short - 16 flashes is code 16 for fuel injector - not uncommon on DPFI engines - probably needs one or both fuel injectors replaced

Maybe unplug your O2 sensor and see if anything changes. Maybe it's just kicking out O2 sensor code over and over (one short blink)
