Car starts then dies
I have a 90 si with a d15b7 bottom end with a jdm d15b head running OBD0. The d15b7 head I had on seized and I got the head swapped as well as new piston rings so my compression is good.
My car does not want to stay running. It seems like it may be a fuel issue. I sprayed starting fluid in the intake manifold and it would run as long as I sprayed it but would die shortly after. I then replaced the fuel filter, and then the fuel pump, but the problem still exists. The car had been sitting for months so I put new gas in it with some Heet to see if it would help and it did not.
People have told me it could be the main relay but I was under the impression that if the main relay was bad it would not crank at all. I also have heard that the crank sensor may be bad. If anyone could help at all please, I really really need my car.
Thank you so much.

When my main relay went, the engine would still crank. The problem is that the fuel pump would turn on intermittently. Some times it would turn on, and then shut off a minute later. I'd start with the main relay, since it runs with starting fluid.
Okay so I tried replacing the main relay but nothing happened. I have a feeling it has something to do with the distributor/crank sensor since that's a different distributor than the one I originally used in the car. I'm gonna try to switch the distributor out and see what that does.

could be the ignitor in the distributor, I have rebuilt my distributor and replaced my main relay, plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc. I ended up having a clogged cat lol..but anyways if you have a bud w/ a good distributor, try swapping it and see if that fixes it, then you know the issue is in the distributor itself.

Yea and a new one cost around $180, so if you can find parts to replace it with, it would be cheaper and some of those aftermarket ones don't last as long as the original would.

Yea I'm gonna try to use my old distributor and see if that works. If not, I'll just buy a reman.
doesn't make sense because you said it would run on starter fluid. if you had an obd1 dizzy and an obd0 ecu then there's no way it's going to run. not even if you sprayed jesus juice down the intake plenum.
Okay so today we swapped the distributor and it started right up! However I have a severe oil leak which seems to be coming from the cam seal so I gotta get that done and it seems like valves need some adjusting but after that it should be good to go!
Thank y'all so much for your help!

Okay so when I switched the dizzy back to the obd0 d16a6 dizzy, it ran. Then my friend replaced the cam seal and adjusted the valves and I went to pick it up the next day but it wouldn't start again. So I tried getting a new dizzy but it still did the same thing. Just cranks, but won't start. I know there must be something I'm missing. Does anyone know if a d16a6 distributor is even supposed to be able to work with a d15b head?
Thanks.
Thanks.
