Default D15b cam profile vs D15X

What's the difference in cam profiles,
I need a car that gets good mileage for school,

My plan was to get a CRX or 92+ civic (still new on the body codes), with a D series and make it as efficient as possible.

I hope to accomplish this by having the cams reground to lower profile on the low cam to match the D15B spec without the hassle of the 3stage swap.

Now what is stopping this engine from say D15B cam duration/lift migrated to a B series and then having Vtec lift/dur as GSR?
---My other theory on this is having an efficient 3-400hp build, what do you think?
---How would a shitty low profile cam make due with a GSR cam at given rpm?

Any insight on this would be great, been thinking about this for a while now!

Making the engine produce less power won't necessarily give you better mpg.

Chances are you would actually lose mpg because you'd need to run steeper throttle angles. The 3 stage vtec engine has more ecu tuning involved to give it it's mpg. A very lean burn for one, and many other reasons behind it.

Go buy a scooter if you want more mpg.

Yeah I know about the lean burn with it sensing the knock sensor to lean out the mixture, but still, wouldn't hurt to have a higher HP boosted engine with a **** cam off boost for MPG?

You must not have read the part of my post about throttle angle.

Less power (smaller cam) means more throttle to achieve the same results, throttle angle dictates how much fuel is sprayed out of the injectors. You'll end up using MORE fuel with a small cam. Stop trying to mess with success.

You think like a teenager.
