what year and model car did this motor come from? i know of the f20b, i heard it's good for like 198hp, or 200ps. i've heard of the f22 DOHC, just can't remember where it came from

better search before u get flamed

F22B was a JDM Acclude engine. detroked ver of what we know better as the H23A1. Lots of potential and CHEAP here in the USA due to no one wanting it.

edit: oh and i think it was availble betwewn 90-97 in the JDM. 160hp@6000 / 148 ft lbs torque @ 5000.

the engine is from a jdm prelude basically its a dohc non vtec, makes 160 hp i beleive, reason im asking is instead of putting a stock f22a in he said he could get it cheaper and its a little more hp than my stock 2.2.
i called up his shop and he is doing this swap for me as a favor cuz i need my car asap. i threw a rod in the orig. motor i can't afford the h22 as of rite now, so he is doing it for 1300 installed. so was it a good choice? opinions welcome

i think you made a good decision... i do know u can get this engine for like 400-500 though. obviously not including labor.... assuming you cant do the work yourself that is.

not many, but i hear that if you have high milage on the f22a's if you rebuild it with new pistons there will be too migh upper compression and it will start burning oil ;/ CHANGE YOUR TIMING BELT!! Luckily i havent experienced that and hopefully wont ever.

not sure about f22b's though..

forgot about this thread....

btw this engine is almost getting not worth it $$$ wise. Its obviously gaining popularity because even Steve @ honda motors online would go 675+shipping on it (with no tranny). 4-5 months ago it was more like 300-400+shipping.

splain please? h22a lsd?

EDIT, it's worth getting for me cause even at $1000 for the motor tranny ecu etc. it's way cheaper than the $3200+ h22a's go for up here. Canadian prices btw.

i think i'd go lookin hard enough for a H23A1 first tho... with the jacking up of prices on them you could prolly find a nice H23A1+tranny for not much more if not the same. just my opinion though... same engine with the F22 bore.

I'll check around i guess. One of the resons i want the f22b was the DSM maniflod mod. Does that work on the h23a's?

yes, F22A1-4-6, H23A1, F22B, and maybe the H22A??? share the same exhaust flange.

only reason i throw the h22a in there is i've readin the prelude forum the f22b/h23a1/h22a start their lives out as the same basic block.

The exhaust manifold bolts to the head. Not the block. Just from eyeballing it, I dont think there is anyway an F22b1 header would bolt on to a H22a.

if you can get the motor for a good deal, then by all means go for it. but, dont be fooled, this motor is not a powerhouse and would not be worth spending lots o' cash for.

personally, i would rather spend a little extra and build the **** outta the single camer or just get an h23 that you know the history of.

a few firends of mine have the f22 twin cam swap in there 4th gens and were not pleased totally. if you are dead set on that motor, i whole heartedly suggest picking up at least an h23 tranny, or better yet the h22.

i apologize for the slip.

still stands though, they share the same flange (save the h22a). i guess i should take my *** to sleep... now i remember the only reason to care about them being the same block is h22a/h23/f22b head swaps/hybrid.

we're talking about JDM F22B .. not USDM F22B1 or B2 which do have a funky flange.

this is the flange in question:
sorry for dark pic

and this is a comparison shots of the DSM vs. F22A1-4-6 et al exhaust gasket:

as you can see the bolts do not line up perfectly and require hogging out.
