Full-face vs. 6-Puck
Whats up guys. I'm running a Competition Stage 4 6-puck clutch right now. It's in a k20 swapped EK. I hate it for daily driving. It always chatters unless i rev it up then ride it out for a second. Do all 6-puck clutches operate like this? People keep telling me they can eat up the flywheel too...is this true? I've been thinking about switching it up for something full-face...maybe an Exedy Stage 1 or ACT Heavy Duty. Something a little more comfortable. But i'm not sure if they will hold up. My torque #'s will probably be around 160-180 when the car's done. Any suggestions appreciated.
It chatters due to the friction material used. Action Clutch 6-pucks don't chatter due to the Miba friction pads. Not sure if ACT does as the only one I've driven had a pressure plate that was way too stiff and was either on or off. I'd stay away from a full faced organic clutch. If you want full-face go with a kevlar friction pad. Not sure about other companies, but 6-puck's with kevlar friction pads are available from Action Clutch.
mine chattered until the break in was done. Actually for the first 750 kms the clutch was a real nightmare then over about 50kms all the little annoyances disappeared and it got very smooth. Still sensitive but easy to let the clutch out smooth.
