battery light is on and car died , could i have a short?
i degreased my engine bay yesterday then rinsed it off good, then washed the car like 15 minutes later i start up the car and reverse it out of my garage everything is normal i shut off the car .. then 20 minutes later i start it back up and the motor had a weird knock to it and the battery light was on then the knocking goes away and my light is still on i drive the car about 5 miles to my buddys house and then when i pulled up my lights werent even on my car was dieing out fast.. so today i changed the alternator and put another one in there and stil the same thing my light is on .. could i just be unlucky and have put in another bad one??? i was pretty old looking i got it offf a buddy , but my alternator was on 1 year old and its getting power to the single (white) wire that goes to the top of the alternater.. what should i check or do thanks in advance
Ok first have you checked your pos and neg cables, both body and ground. Did your fuse box get soaked, and you should check you alt pos cable look for any cracks or small holes in the cable. Check those things first.
yea i just checked the battery termials, and i charged the battery overnight , fusebox is inside car and i also checked all the fuses they are all fine , checked the alt. fuse at kick panel and it is fine, also the car is a 92 integra.. as far as for the grounds ive never had a problem with them same ones as always
if you have a dvom (volt meter) put it on dc mode and install it on youre neg. and pos. batt post and ck youre voltage while car is at idle. you should have 13-14 V.
also ck youre output from the alternator.
you probably have a open fuse. but do youre checks first.
