Noise/vibration from front left
I have a new issue. My car is a 99 EX coupe, auto trans. The car is bone stock. I have a noise/vibration coming from the front left. It sounds/feels like when you have a flat spot on a tire. It only happens when I release the gas pedal. It goes away when I accelerate or if I slip the trans in neutral. Does anyone have any experience with anything like that? Thanks.
This is caused by a bad CV axle assembly or (less likely) a engine/transmission mount. Do you notice a clicking sound that is proportional to wheel speed when the wheels are turned and accelerating at low speeds?
The sound is proportional to wheel spin but not steering angle. It would only occur when I release the gas, but on the way home last night it started occuring on and off the gas at low speed and is getting louder. I checked the mounts and they are fine. I will check the CV when I get a chance.
If the mounts check out and the noise is not proportional to wheel speed then look closely at the inner CV joints on both axles. Make sure the rubber boot isn't torn and there isn't grease thrown about. Hold the Axle shaft with your hand and try twisting motions as well as up-down-side to side motions. If you feel any play or the boot is torn, it is very likely the culprit.
