thinkin bout converting my stock automatic 2005 civic LX to manual trans
just wondering do i have to drop the subframe down to swap trans or no

Yes, you need to drop the subframe down. Its pretty easy though.

dunno if i can do all that with the car on jack stands
i'd prolly need to use a twin post lift which i dont really have access to

 

You can do it with Jack stands, you'll need to get your car up a good 2 feet tho, I had my tranny out using only jackstands when i replaced the ISB, the subframe does need to drop, you can drop the back and support the front with another stand or block, make sure your carefull not to put to much strain on your exhaust if you cant disconnect, i couldnt cause the flange and bolts were rusted together like it was welded. Also make sure you have your engine supported, its easier to do it from above than below. I used a chain, 2X4 and some foam as to not scratch the paint on the fenders.
