Could i get a little help?
I recently found a type-r for sale on craigslist. I know it's shady and a lotta scams happen there but the car is relatively close to me. anyways i was wondering if there is anyway to tell if the car is actually a type-r in the case that it was missing any emblems or anything like that. like is there some way to tell from the engine or anything like that or... whatever? idk anyways all help is appreciated. thanks
If the VIN number reads JH4DC231 for the first eight digits, it's atleast an ITR VIN number. The engine would read B18C5, there isn't a sunroof, no side moldings, no cruise control, interior should light up amber, there should be a badge number on the armrest, and much more that you can't really notice unless you know what you're looking for. Everything I listed are things that can be done to any other Integra to make look like a genuine ITR, your best bet at finding out is again to check all VIN numbers; on the dash, firewall, door jams, ect.

(I'm not being sarcastic either).
edit: stolen FASTER than your civic
If you are just buying it for the name (obviously since you dont know much about an R) just get a GS-R.. a lot cheaper(3 times).. lesser chances of being targeted for theft.. has almost the same potential...
but if you are a Type R enthusiast.. thats a whole different story...

actually i've done a lot of reading on them and i was told on this forum to try and find one in the first place. there really is no reason to be rude. it was just a question. and no I'm not buying it just for the name. i actually really like the car and i plan to make it a project that i keep for a long time. I'm pretty sure the first or second car you bought you probably didn't know anything about so seriously you could show a little respect.
well i was in no way trying to be rude.. i can understand that it sounds rude just reading it but i didnt mean to be at all just sayin in case you didnt know... and actually i knew everything about the first car i bought and it is still sitting in my garage safe and sound... first car of course was an integra.. ive been an integra enthusiast ever since the first one came out in 93 Gen 3 of course.. been hunting down every info ever since.. did my first swap experience with a friends integra at the age of 7.. mmm started saving as soon as i worked an i just got my integra last year... but hey i dont blame you... it wasnt when i first bought my car but when i first started getting into them... believe me.. everyone started in your shoes... go check out that R and if you need help with anything just ask again... sorry for the misunderstanding.. post up the link so that we all can see...

Alrighty then. Sorry for misunderstanding. It's just these days seems like no one has a sense of decency. But yeah. I took my real interest in cars since i was 16 (I'm 18 now) and i live in this small ghetto farm town so there isn't a real industry for cars over here. Honestly out of the people in my school I wouldn't doubt it if I was the most informed about cars. My first passion was the civic but like I said I was told to go after an Integra. So that's what I did. I've been searching everywhere for about 3 months and I hope I finally found one. Here's the link http://bend.craigslist.org/cto/1549617515.html Yes I know it's dirty and needs TLC but isn't that what it's truly about? Taking a run down hardly working car and turning it into your dream car? That's what I always thought. Anyways... Thanks for all the help again and sorry for that misunderstanding.

http://www.Team-Integra.net.. im not on here all the time and even if i am, im just spectating (hence the # of posts i have) but i am on Team-integra 24/7 .. you will love it there and its a great sorta strict place to learn about integra's..
if your planing to do a project then i'd suggest getting a civic and do a swap (lighter than the integra). of course you wont have the obvious, type r but you can have a sleeper
non the less how much are you buying it for? Dont want you to get screwed over

i dont want to ruin your hopes and dreams.. but from these pics.. that looks like an LS or GS-R with maybe a Type R engine... its cheap... i know for sure that 98's only come in Championship white.. it is not until 2000-2001 that Phoenix yellows and Black type R's were made.. just make sure before buying.. ask the owner everything possible...
that is not a type R.
Here's what you need to do.
1. Research before you get burned.
2. Make sure you can safely own the car, considering your CIVIC got stolen, an integra type R might last ohhhhh about 12 minutes.
3. Steer clear of that car, the owner can't even spell "integra". Plus he's either a stupid *** or trying to pass that car off as an ITR.
4. Did i mention research? you know, before you get burned.
Do yourself and the community a service and don't buy one until you are damn good and ready.

Yeah I read that so that's why I was asking. I thought maybe a custom paint job but I don't know. But yeah that was the reason for my question in the first place. But even if it had the B18C5 then I could always pick up a better looking one and swap the engines between them. The 96-01 range are really interchangeable correct?

just so you know.. i have a GS-R... took me over a year to find the perfect car.. it was granny owned.. perfect maintanence with all reciepts... pretty much stock cept rims.. 48 k miles for just over 6000 ... i'd say keep looking unless your not willing to travel for the car... oh yeah i did travel 4 hours to get my car...

Dang and I was hoping I finally found a car. Well I guess I'll just have to keep looking then. And yes I will travel. I was already planning on traveling 3 hours away to get a car but I saw this pop up close to where I live (about 45 minutes) and decided to inquire about it. I guess I'll keep looking then :/ It's sorta frustrating not having a car for this long. But oh well. I know by the time I'm done I'll have something that was worth waiting for. And yes I could own a Type-R where I live. Cars are almost never stolen here. On average about six cars are stolen per year where I live and 3-4 are recovered. Plus like i said before no one really knows anything about cars here. It's a bunch of country folk that unless it's a truck they won't look twice at the so called "rice burners"

my friend did a project similar too.. he revived a Theft stolen Type R from the dead.. he probably spent over 5k on the engine.. bought w/blown head and then he rebuilt .. and probably a good 10k more on the body.. just gives you an idea of how much it can cost up to... another one of our friends did it similarly but on a budget .. basically he has type R main things in the car.. but it is a GSR/ LS parts mixed .. not important things though.. he probably spent lets see .. 800 on the shell.. 2k w/ hook up on the engine/ tranny .. 3k on paint .. 2k on the suspension and about another 1 k for miscellaneous things.. theres others that i forget though.. but this just gives you an idea..
If you go and look at it...open the hood and look at the bulkhead located (about 2 inches from the big aftermarket air filter) on the passenger's side. It should be solid metal.
Here is a photo of my repairs using a GSR bulkhead (with the 4 inch hole) Then you can check the engine for the C5 stamp, etc.

x2, i bought mine in in April of 09 as basically a shell, since then including the price of the car i am almost at 12,000 (including the caR, which was 5700). Before spring i will be about another 4,000 Between ordering my Volk's and a fresh set of ksports. After that it's all the body work and fresh paint. Grand total is gonna be closing in on a total of 18,000 including the cost of the caR, but to me it's well worth it to restore it back to where it deserves to be.
Thanks for the help everyone. I'll go back to the drawing board now and keep on my quest to find a car. I'll most likely post about it here before getting it because I trust you guys know what you're talking about. Anyways.... yeah. Thanks
