Default Clutch/Trans diagnosis...please look

Setup: 88 CRX Si w/ JDM B16 and Y1 LSD cable Tranny, 1/2 Honda MTF, 1/2 Synchromesh. Exedy Stage 2 thick Cerametallic Clutch & Exedy flywheel. Trans supposedly has low mileage and my clutch has 5k miles. Release bearing has been a little noisy since day 1 so not sure if that's the issue...you tell me if it could be causing either of these symptoms (please)...

Issue # 1 - Problems getting it into 1st gear and downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. It doesn't grind, just seems to hit a wall for lack of a better term. At a complete stop the car doesnt want to go into 1st gear. The only way to get it to go in is to release the clutch, then try again and it usually goes in, sometimes takes 3 tries, never grinds though. 1-2 shift has no problems at all. When downshifting from 3rd to 2nd it just wont go in to 2nd...the only way to get it in is to go from 3rd and act like i'm going in to 1st gear (without releasing the clutch) and then SLAM the lever down to 2nd with alot of force.

Issue #2 - 2-3 shift. 3rd gear grind, I know it's common and I can live with it, I just find it strange that the grinding goes away at lower rpm once the tranny warms up (I've tried straight Honda MTF, straight Synchromesh, 1/2 and 1/2 and even tried a little Redline gear oil mixed in but nothing cleared it up). But it always grinds at high RPM, less if you double-clutch.

Sorry so long....Thanks in advance,

Adam

What mounts?

Clutch could be slipping or not fully disengaging.

1/2 sleeve set could be shot, the 1/2 hub is likely scratched up due to the 2nd gear problem. 3/4 sleeve set could be shot. $500-$600 in parts to fix it worst case.

Oh I completely forgot to mention...the clutch DOES slip sometimes...4th/5th gear...I loosened the cable so the pedal grabbed lower...and it was ok for a while but just started again recently....

I'm using the Hasport mounts (newer style) and Hasport linkage (just rebuilt)...

Oh, and it seems that you do rebuilds...are parts available for a cable JDM Y1 LSD? I was told by someone that gear sets are tough to come by for this trans...and not really interchangeable. What do you think labor would run, roughly?

You might want to check your release system. From the bearing to the actual cable itself and adjustment. The bearing should make no noise whatsoever after the first installation!
