Hondabond is a product of Permatex. Their Right Stuff gasket maker for imports is the same ****.

Regular black permatex rtv works acceptably if you're looking for cheap. Don't buy the colored crap, it's too slippery.

There is nothing wrong with the black stuff, I've been using it for many years.

the main reason i don't use the black is because its not compatible to anything gas/petroleum.. the grey is more like Honda bond

Why would you ever seal something fuel related with RTV? The black is oil resistant and works great. I've using it for 20 years with no problems. I prefer the black Toyota RTV to anything, even Honda Bond. I find the blue and red RTV to be a bit too slippery and tends to squeeze out.

RTV should never be used to seal either gasoline or coolant (such as a water pump or a thermostat gasket). It will eventually leak. You are much better off with a paper gasket or an o-ring.

EDIT: RTV can be used for waterpump and thermostat bolt threads but never on the paper gasket.

The grey silicone is specificly formulated to seal aluminum parts. The black isnt. The colors indicate the diffrent uses of the sealant At least thats the dribble we get from our local Permatex rep.

I've found the most important thing is not what brand or color RTV it is, but that the surfaces to be sealed are absolutely clean and dry. RTV does not stick to oil! I use brake kleen and compressed air with good results.

The reason to ensure LIGHT fuel resistance is because there are trace amounts of unburned fuel left over by blowby in the engine oil. No engine in mass-production is 100% tight so there is always some blowby that occurs during regular operation. It's part of the reason that you need to change your oil, and also the reason your oil smells like gas if you have a excessive fuel condition as the fuel washes the oil off of the piston rings, and slips past into the crankcase oil. I agree that the grey Permatex RTV sealant works pretty well if I can't get over to the local Honda dealer to get Hondabond.
