Default IM Dyno test with various IM's

Great article in the February issue of Super Street. They took a K20 A Type R engine and did a baseline dyno test and then compared that to several other IM's that are available.
I think the results correlate well the the K20 Z3 engine.

1/ Stock PRC baseline - 214hp 144tq.
2/ Endyne ported RBB - +.2 hp - +11 tq.
3/ Stock RBC - +5 hp +.6 tq
4/ Skunk 2 Pro K-Series - +10 hp - +2.4 tq.
5/ Blueprint RBC - +5.3 hp +1.3 tq.
6/ RAA manifild - -10.5 hp - +7.4 tq.
7/ RRC manifold - +14.4 hp - +8.5 tq. (OEM)

Check it out, good reading.

I believe these were the biggest or greatest gains. The tuning was done at Erick's racing in Baldwin Park Calif. The internals were stock with a few bolt ons. What I liked was the comparison of the IM's availble out there and how they compared to each other.

from what ive seen i didnt think that the skunk2 im was all that great for ou z3. also the rrc is great with gains and fitment. makes it a great choice and not the easiest to get.

The whole package of IM, Header, cat-back exhaust, Flash-Pro and dyno made my car
completely different. It's hard to say how each individually made a difference, ( although it
felt much quicker) but once the whole package came together, it was money well spent.

I didn't get a chance to dyno my car before and after the mods, but this recent article
showing the numbers makes me think that the RRC was a wise upgrade. It's nice that an
OEM bolt on upgrade is available.

I had my car dynoed at Churches here in Southern Calif. The best we could do was:

230 hp
170 lb tq.
Along with the power gains, I was able to get rid of my CEL, reduce the DBW throttle lag and
get the torque into a more useable part of the power band. If you look, I posted the dyno graph some time ago.

i know and understand that there are all these intake manifolds out and many to choose from. each having there benifit. one thing that tickles me is why noone has done anything with the dual runner intake manifolds off the a3. i have a magazine article with intake manifold tests and just from switching from a longer narrower runner to a shorter wider runner they gained no hp or tq ne where along the rpm range. they actually lost power by going with these desired short runners. i actually took time to sit down and calculate what the actual prime runner diameter should be and the actual length to give me tq gains in mid rpm without affecting top end at all and nothing out there exsists. does anyone know of or heard of anyone using this manifold off the a3? maybe ive been living under a rock and this manifold wont fit for some reason. which leads me to this.... why has noone made a injection molded dual runner intake manifold that optimizes the longer narrower runners for low end to mid range tq and hp then switches over to shorter wider diameter runners to maximize high rpm output? also wasnt a big issue with the z3 manifold the heat soak to the fact of the metal IM gasket?

I don't know the answer to the first part of your note, but I did install my new IM with the Hondata IM gasket which is supposed to help by reducing intake temps.

i would be interested if skunk2 or someone else made an injection molded manifold with dual runners for us. it would be perfect. improve all around hp and tq. if i could i would make one but haha that would be uber expensive. LS1 owners have injection molded manifolds from factory to reduce heat soak.
