Default Legality of carbon fiber hoods?

Just wondering if anyone of you guys with carbon fiber hoods have had any trouble with police or have been cited for your hood; just wondering because the area I live in is cracking down on everything now. Thanks

a hood is a hood- why would the fact that it is carbon fiber mean anything to the police?

use hood pins.

Because a CF hood will not pass safety standards when it comes to crashes. I'm not sure if there is any laws on aftermarket hoods. Thats what I have always been informed.

Hate to break it to you, but CF is stronger than metal. A friend of mine got into a front-end collision at 85 M.P.H. and the hood suffered only minor cracks in the gelcoat.

Factory hoods are designed to crumple to absorb impact during a head on collision. It also crumples to prevent the chance that it might come loose and removes your head.

The paint will flake unless you sand off, or at least rough up the gelcoat. also, be sure to prime it very well. We did it on my friends EG coupe, and the result has been great. Light, strong hood and no police attention.

I've got booked doing 139km in a 60 km zone, I have no problem with the c/f hood. Just on the infringement ticket, he putted down "white with black bonnet" as the color of the car

not really an issue that has been touched upon on street cars. many competittion car assns. won't let you run them because they don't crumple, they just rip though things like you or other people. it's a good idea to hoodpin yours just in case. i wouldn't be suprised to see them starting to cause tickets on the street thanks to a neverending effort on behalf of authorities to make driving modified imports a pain in the ***.

Carbon Fiber + black car = pretty sleeper Thats what I got and most people don't even notice the hood unless right up close.

Does it really matter? 75% of the of modifications we make to our cars are not CARB exempt or DOT approved or what-not...

I agree by saying its just a hood.

I have heard that, but I also know that the 'higher end' CF manufacturers claim that they design the hood bracing with the same crumple zones as the OEM hoods. I have not however seen any proof of this. Someone should e-mail the Dept. of Transportation and ask if any are DOT approved.
