Default 99 honda accord sedan typical problems?

Ok I Just got this accord and I apparently have what seem to be common honda problems and I am hoping for help I have researched both these problems and haven't really got definitive answers for either most of the 1st problem seem to be for civics or older accords. With all that said my 1st problem is the dash lights don't work the previous owner had hacked the radio harness so I went and and tryed to make it a little more neat but after doing so I lost my lights to the cluster all others work though and yes I have checked the fuses and bulbs. 2nd some times the switches on the heater for defrost low hi etc stop working no clue whats causing this. Finally I have the dreaded front passenger door won't open and it is the latch(we checked all the cables to it and plus it doesn't open internally or externally) I have read you can drill from the back how ever I am not sure how true this is because every dealer I talked to had no idea and if you can I can't find directions for where to drill and I have considered trying to take the interior panel off but by looking at it just doesn't seem it will fit through with the door shut hopefully some of you can help

Thanks in Advance

For the first problem with the lights, I had a similar issue. After checking every fuse 3 times, I finally had a facepalm moment when I turned the dimmer switch on the dash and the lights all came on. I guess I turned it down while cleaning the dash. Hopefully that is it on yours. Otherwise if you blew the dimmer circuit I don't think that is a cheap part.

I thought about that and after looking for the dimmer switch which is the one on the cluster right that didn't cure it when I tried it but thanks

p.s dont feel bad we all have those moment it took me 30 minutes to realize my ground wire was on the wrong spot of my amp once

While you say you looked at fuses, I would still suspect one of those as the primary problem.

The dimmer switch may have blown and you need a new one.

The harness is still f'd up and grounding/shorting somewhere.

Oh, and on your door latch thing try this. Pull off the inside door latch handle. Grab the metal rod and pull it really hard and see if you can feel the latch piece loose inside or if you can actually get the door open. I was able to open a door like that once. Once you get it open then you can fix the problem.

also tryed this but thanks I even tried it with vice grips

MuffinMan I know its not the fuse because one I checked it and two that fuse also goes to the reverse lights which still work and the dimmer switch is built into the cluster I hope this theory is incorrect I find it hard to believe its that since it did work when I got it if I shorted something I would be on the assumption the fuse would blow this is why they are there and it is the correct amps on the fuse installed also

Well after reading over my wiring diagrams I looked again and neither of the wires red or red/black were hooked up so I hooked up the red to ground and at least now I have lights although the dimmer doesn't work i am assuming this is because I didn't hook the red/black up I didn't dare hook the positive back up(red/black) but I am assuming this is why the dimmer isn't working though but since I live in Maine and its like 10 degrees and no garage i'm happy heh thanks for the input conan and the muffinman now how about that damn latch ergh any other ideas any one

For your door issue....
I just posted a fix for it on this forum site. Do a search for "door won't open"
Pictures included.

Hope it helps
