Default Bought a stolen Civic Si

Last Thursday night at 10:30 I bought a 90 civic SI from a board member. It was snowing. The car was a good deal, drove it a little bit and checked the VIN numbers from the title and compared it to the dashboards VIN. Well, that night I kept thinking that something wasn’t right, so the next day I went to check the VINs in the doors and firewall. Well, the door sticker was half missing and the firewall was covered in bondo/JB weld. I sent him a text message since he didn’t answer the phone. I contacted him giving him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he didn’t know before calling the cops. When he called me he said that he was in the DMV returning the tags, I told him that the car seems stolen and I want my money back. He started saying that that was impossible since he had it titled and insured, to what I told him that he had titled and tagged the car that the dash belonged to and not the civic Si that he sold. He couldn’t understand, or he was playing dumb, he told me to give him a couple of minutes and he would call me back. When I called him back after a while he was telling me this entire BS that the DMV told him, which I didn’t care. I just wanted my money back and he could deal with it since its not my fault, he said that he already spent the money, which I think was BS, and he was not going to give it back. Well, the cops were called, a detective came to my place, sanded down the VIN number in the firewall and there it was, stolen on 8/2/09 from Prince William.
Well, I gave him the chance that If indeed he bought it from somewhere else, he could take it back and then deal with the other guy but that he was going to get in deep **** because he was selling stolen goods. He didn’t care and told me to go ahead and call the cops. You know what, even if you didn’t steal it, you still knew it was stolen. In VA in order to pass inspection, the inspector has to check the VIN numbers and compare them to the door, firewall and dash. So you either paid somebody to pass you because you knew the VINs were missing, which is illegal or you had another civic and swapped the dash, which is also illegal.
Either way Hondasi88, prepare your *** because your going to Jail.

Check the pics: http://s138.photobucket.com/albums/q...ch%20Pictures/

Pass the word and tell the rightful owner he might get his car back.

PS Sorry for my grammar, I’m not thinking about that today.

if the car was paid for by the insurance company, they own it, he would need to buy it from them at auction, or make some kind of arrangement for it.

the guy you bought it from might not have known it was stolen when he bought it...

crxcess, yes he might not have known when he bought it, but as soon as he had to do the inspection, somebody had to have told him. He had the car tagged and insured.
Also, I told him it was stolen and how I knew, and still he wouldn't give me my money back. That makes him a thief in my eyes.

maybe he didnt steal it? maybe he had a wrecked car with a title, and bought this car from another state and couldnt get the title so just used his title and dash etc. from his old civic? ..or maybe he just stole it =/..

Sucks man, my brothers ek hatch just got stolen about a week and a half ago.. They ****ed his ignition and stole it, just to take his si wheels, carbon cargo cover, my kenwood (with security code.), his intake, my battery, and some other goodies like his digital camera and whatever else was in there.. Anyways.. **** theives!!
