Default F22 Transmission Opinion options

Alright guys, my trans is going and I want some opinions on my options.
94 accord, h22a, f22trans5speed. About 160K miles. All the syncros are gone. Every gear grinds. Reverse locked up. I'm flint stoning it.

Here are my options:
- Find a junk yard trans
or
- Rebuild

*Junkyard would cost around $350
---they are very hard to find.
---Dont know whats wrong with it
---dont know who drove it
---No guarantees
---Way cheaper

*Rebuild price range is $700-$1500
---Depends on what needs replacing
---Shop said if didn't have $1500 then don't waste his time
---Im going boost during summer, would be reliable
---RELIABILITY

Opinions please. I need reliability but i dont want to spend that much.

Anyone have experience with transmission rebuilds? How hard is the job yourself? Does anything need to be pressed?

Also, some people keep telling me to go gsr trans or m2a5 which is the lsd prelude.

Im going boost so i want that long gear ratio from the accord terans.

A tranny rebuild isn't too hard. You just gotta know how/what to measure, which gear is which(Its hard to tell), and a hydraulic press. If you haven't tear any Honda standard transmission apart before, I suggest you don't do it cause you can break alot of things.

Just get a JDM H23A trans from one of the JDM Engine Importers. Most of them works good. A GSR trans will not work in Preludes/Accords chasis; only in Civics & Tegs.

Well, my main goal is turbo in 5 months. F22 trans has longer gears then h23. So I wanted to stick with the f22.
Idk, my dad is a ex mechanic and he thinks he can do the rebuild, he doesn't have a press though so thats why i asked.

accord/prelude's fit. Just about everything is interchangeable. You can put a H22 head on an F22 block. H23 head on and F23 block.

so basically the f22 trans would be better for boost? Im doing an h22 swap now and only can find a f22 trans so im going to use that.

alright how would that work though??..h22 head on an f22 block?
cause ive got the f22b which is sohc and obviously the h2 head is dohc which means it would be bigger then f22 head.
and if it does work would you be able to use the same f22 intake and exhaust manifolds on the h22 head?

do you know of a thread or something that might cover this sort of head swap? doesnt have to be step by step or anything though it would help, but atleast something with some information on the swap..
that would be sweet
thanks Blue94Accord

to some ppl it is better, but if you want to speed up faster f22 is the worst, its good for a street driven car on boost, because itll keep you out of boost, track driven go H trans, like the M2B4, T2W4, T2T4, M2A4, M2S4, or M2F4

way too much work then its worth, and alot less reliable, you gotta drill, and machine the block

about the f22 in take and exhaust manis on the h22 head no the studs dont line up, the f22 flows way better then the h22, or so ive herd, i would know by experiance though, i have a f20b

Naa man. Its not hard. the hardest part is getting the water pump. You have to buy custom for that. Use the H22 intake because its better then the f22. The exhaust has nothing to do with the head. Pretty much why you would do this swap is because...

The F22's main problem is the sohc head. The block is perfect for boost because 8.8-1 compression with iron sleeves.
The H22 main problem is the block. It has frm sleeves that are thin and its 10.6-1 compression is high.

SO you take the best of both. Strong duel cam head with a low compression iron sleeve block. . Everything fit. Just some minor adjustments from a normal swap. Its pro for boost, but if your leave it n/a then its a pointless swap.

hears a link..
