1999 Honda Civic F20b cold start problem...
This is really giving me a big headache.I have a f20b motor swap in my ek. i have tried to do some research on why its doing this but rarely find anything. Every morning i go out to start my car the motor would crank and crank and crank but not fire till after several tries of starting. it takes about 25-30 tries to start the car once it starts its fine after that till i leave it over night or 4-5 hours. i have change out the coolant temperature sensor and also clean out the egr valve. i really need help on why its has such a bad problem with cold starting. fuel pump main relay is working fine.
starter tested out fine. sparks plugs and cap are all fine. yes f20b in a ek is pretty quick. but im trying to fix this cold starting problem! someone help!!
Have you checked fuel pressure? Possibly a faulty sending unit, clogged fuel filter restricting fuel. I'm not sure what kind of set up you are running to support the F20.
Also, are there any codes in the computer?

i am running a PCT type r ecu with this setup.. is it possible that its the wrong ecu cause it to have a cold bad start..? what would be the recommended ecu for this setup if the PCT is not the right one for it.
Hi, did you ever solve the problem?
I'm having same kind of issue. Starting only when preheated (defa) or engine is warm.
Also found that when only ect sensor is warmed up the car starts (could be something behind the sensor that gets warmed though). I replaced the ECT sensor with no effect.

Any OBD1 that sometimes works fine but other times cranks but won't start should consider the main relay first. When you click the key on but don't crank, the CEL should come on then go out while the fuel pump primes.
Interesting thing is that when I warm only the ECT sensor (with hot air blower) car starts fine. Some electrical it has to be. Thumbs up for the relay
So I checked the relay and added solder to the soldering points. I left car to cool down for over night and then in the morning tried to start the car, it started, but not easily - something like from 10th try with holding gas pedal down it started. That's better than before, so I'm questioning my soldering skills (last time soldered a decade ago) or maybe the relay is bad. Have to buy a new relay and hope for the best
