How does a manual and electronic boost controller work, and which ones are good?
I know its a really noobish question but I need to know it and I been trying to find out how they work by searching stuff here on Honda-tech and google but still no answers so please help a fellow honda-tech member out
Well normally the boost is controlled by the turbo pressure overcoming the spring in the wastegate. Once the boost pressure reaches the spring tension the wastegate valves opens and bypasses exhaust around the turbine, so boost stops climbing.
Boost controllers work by altering the amount of pressure seen by the wastegate. Manual ones just bleed off a certain amount of air before it reaches the wastegate so it "tricks" it into opening later (at higher boost).
Electronic ones do the same "trick" on the wastegate but have an electronic solenoid mechanism to have control over exactly how much pressure the wastegate "sees."
