Attention All Audio Gurus: Please Help Me Out!
OK, here's the situation. I was driving down the road my headunit all of a sudden got really loud and then it just died. I mean there was no power. It would not turn on, my antenna would not come up and what was in there would not eject anymore. It was completely dead. By the way, I drive a 1996 Integra and it is a Sony head unit with the flip down face. My first thought was the 15A fuse under the dash that belonged to the Radio/Cigarette lighter. I checked it and the fuse was fine. So, I decided to check the 7.5A fuse under the hood marked "Backup." That fuse was OK as well. So I took the radio out and checked the 10A fuse on the back of the unit itself. That fuse was also OK. I checked all the wires to make sure that everything was still hooked up and I even went as far as to unplug everything and replug it, thinking that maybe a connector had come out or something. Still nothing. I have no clue as to why my head unit is dead. Does anyone else have any insight to this mystery? Thanks.
Can you test the wires with a multimeter, if you can then check the ground for continuity and the 12v ign and mem. If you can't take the radio out and hook it up to an external 12v source, like a cordless drill battery. If you still get nothing after hooking it up to a different 12v source, then i would probably guess that your radio is toast.
....He's dead Jim......Ok seriously though...try to reset the radio...look for a small micro switch on the faceplate or behind it...Sony sometimes have a very annoying habit of locking up...reset them and they work fine...if you try this and nothing happens...and you are getting voltage on the yellow(memory) red(ign/acc) and its properly grounded(black)..call it...its time for a new deck.
