Default Cooling system help

so ive been driving my new(to me) ef sedan for about a week now and today i went to get it smogged and before the guy pulled it into the garage it spit out a bunch of coolant. I only drove it a little bit afterward cuz my house is only a short drive away and it seemed to be at a normal temperature. Nobody has filled it lately to my knowledge. I aske the previous owner(a trusted source) if he had recently topped it odd or if they did it at the shop when he got the oil changed. He said he hasnt done anything to it and the shop said nothing about it. there is nothing at all in the over-flow reservoir thing to the right. I let it run with the cap off for a little and no fluid rose to the top but i put a few ounces of distilled water in it and the water didnt sink. Pressure problem? possible clogged hose? has anybody had this problem. i dont think the coolant was over filled. should i buy some radiator cleaner stuff to run through it? tell me what you think
